Da wont stay running
I own a 90 LS Integra hatch with B18a 5speed tranny. I have Int/Exh stage 1 clutch (Exedy) and sreetlite Flywheel 11 Lb. My Problem goes as follows, I was driving the other day and suddenly my car died, it has never done this while it was running. I tried starting it back up the same nite and it would turn over but wouldnt crank. I went back the next day and it started right up as if nothing was wrong. i continued to drive it regularly and then a week later same result. at first i figured it was the fuel pump, but i ruled that out when i heard it run with the ignition turned on in the start pos. then i checked my plugs and wires one of my plugs was fualty so i replaced the whole set. it started right up but when it went down to normal idle it died again! now every time i try to start it, it will crank 1 or 2 times out of maybe 10. i just purchased a Pgm-Fi relay and it still gives me the same problem. I see that these cars often have this problem. im starting to get real frustrated troubleshooting. if ANYONE has expierenced this problem PLEASE give me a suggestion. Sorry for Such A Long Post Thanx.
well i dont know if this will help but did you check your distributor coil? i had the same kind of problem really about an hour a go it would be running and then die in the middle of the road as i was driving. i got a new coil and cleaned the clearance with the plug wires and the coil and bam it started right up. i dont know if that will help but if you want to give it a try and see if it works for your problem
Just because u hear the fuel pump activate when key on dosent rule out that the fuel pump is good. That's just the relay powering it for a second to preasurize the fuel in the lines. Do a fuel preasure test, ur fuel pump could be heating up and loosing stregth when ran for a long time. Also make sure ur ignition switch is good. Yes check your cap and rotor.
I requested a short story for a title.

i dont really understand the bold, by crank do you mean start? like it starts after ten different tries of starting it or after 10 times of the engine turning over
if it cranks over about 10 times before starting i would say there is a fuel pressure problem and the pump is probably junk

hahahah I was gonna say the same thing, cranking the car means turning it over with the starter not the engine running. I guess when he means crank he means the engine starting, wich is obviosly worded incorectly.
Definitely check your distributor. If you can get your hands on a known working one, swap that out for a week and see if the problem continues. If you do not have access to another dizzy, then at least do a resistance test on the coil. Your symptoms sound like they are heat related.

Hey, that is cool, but my 7 years of experience makes me think that the fuel pump has little to do with it, considering he is experiencing heat symptoms, which are 90% electrical.
For the most part, a fuel pump works or it doesn't, all digital and ****....

Thanx everybody first off. I was suspecting it could be my coil, i just purchased a voltmeter (detector?) from Sears. I'm no electronics expert so i read the manual on resistance and ohm readings. I definitely want to check my dist. completely, to see if im at least getting spark to my wires. once i go from there ill check my cap, NOW this is when it gets tricky for myself. Once i remove the rotor (orange) what do a take apart from there.
By cranking i simply mean the engine rotates but it will not start at all, Oh, i left out one crucial thing guys sorry
i purchased i re-man alt. from Napa (p.o.s!)
and since then the car has been showing some electrical problems. would the voltage regulator pose some of the problems im expierincing, or the belt tension on the alternator itself. this could be the only thing i can think of. i dont wanna drop my car of at the Acura dealer just so they can charge $200 bucks for something i can fix.

It's most likely the coil or icm in the distributor, put a whole new distributor on, i bet that it. My DA did the same thing about 2 weeks ago, dizzy fixed her.

He said he got a new main relay, I'm almost 100% sure it's dizzy.

Wow! after enough tinkering with the ignition system, i finally solved the problem. it was the cap. The spring inside the cap that keeps an electrical connection with the rotor was recessed and would allow spark to my wires. What a buzz kill>
anyway i pulled the connector out enough to maintain tension on the spring inside and its running strong again. i even gained a few extra hp with the fresh ign. system, one last question: is the remedy i performed good enough for reliability or is there a way to replace the spring inside the cap so it wont cut out on me while driving.
