Well you pretty much just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one in. However I replaced mine when I had my intake manifold removed, so that made it so much easier. But of course getting the IM off and back on was a major PITA.
when i put the motor in my DA, i put the bolts in for the two side mounts first (didnt tighten them down) and then the rear one. having just the side ones in allowed the motor to move just enough to jockey it into place. i too had the exhaust pipe off. it was a bit of a PITA as you say (lol) since the rear one is shaped kinda weird, so having room to work definitely made it easier. it was a little frustrating since i didnt take it off, or see my friend take it off, but if you look at it you can see how it goes on. i hope that this has been at least encouraging, if not helpful.
ok i did it!! what a PITA though... the hardest part was trying to remove the T bracket on the rear mount. I couldn't remove it w/o remove a ton of hoses so i work my way around it and was able to remove and install the rear wount with the T bracket loose. much stiffer now the motor is so snugg with these innovative mounts

meh I had poly inserts in just the 2 front lower mounts and the whole car vibrated like hell at idle.
I didn't even bother trying to put the rear one in. I yanked the front inserts out and replaced it with new OEM mounts.
