okay so my car worked fine in the past i have a 96 Integra GSR... yea anyways my vtec kiks in at 5900 rpm and as u all know once vtec hits u feel the power increase right well for some reason out of no where when i hit vtec it feels if the power in my car decreases it used 2 be perfectly fine and now it runs like **** when i hit vtec... any ideas what it could be.... vtec still hits but the power goes goes down not up.... im thinking i messed up one of my valves but im not sure though.... can anyone help me out
Sounds like your symtoms are coming from a Bad distributor or if you ever touched your injectors, the little needle that shoots out gas from it could be broken. Check it out! If the distributors bad, get one from Distributor King. Great Customer Service and ships quickly and works guranteed. Had mine for 2-3 years without a problem.

If your car is stock besides HEADER and cam gears it's not hitting vtec at 5900 rpm.

OP: 5900 is not VTEC, it's the secondary intake runners that open up. VTEC kicks in at 4400 on a stock GSR.
To others: does anyone know what, if any, supporting parameters have to be in place for the secondaries to be effective? For one thing I'm thinking the ECU probably needs to send in more fuel to cover for the extra air. For another I'm thinking VTEC needs to be engaged - I'd imagine you'd definitely feel power drop if you open up the IABs while on the mild cam lobes... Just throwing out ideas.

I find it very hard to hear the cam switch. IAB opening, on the other hand, sounds like MAD VTAK YO!
Hehe, don't drive your car low on oil, ever.

Borrow a code scanner from autozone if you don't have one and check for a pending code. Your computer may have a code stored but the CEL isn't on. My car did that when i had several cylinder misfires. The car just ran sluggish and hesitant but never had a CEL. But one day i through on the code scanner and sure enough i retrieved several codes.
P1399 is the pending code for misfires, just for the archive. I have a hard time finding that one in code lists.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by all-mtr-teg »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Borrow a code scanner from autozone if you don't have one and check for a pending code. So it feels completely normal until VTEC? Have you tried going to redline at partial throttle?
I am guessing that it is a fuel problem, like a weak injector or something, but there is still quite a bit of troubleshooting to do.

even though i fixed it a little by changing the oil i feel as if i still am losing alot of power over 5000 rpm... im gunna try the whole gas thing... then if that doesnt ill get new injectors
Don't waste your money getting new injectors unless they are actually bad. Do like some have already suggestion, check for CEL, check your ignition system, maybe even do a compression and leak down.

Yup, I didn't have a CEL on but sure enough when I through my code scanner on it through P1399 random misfire code. I took it to my buddies shop, hooked up the snap on scanner and sure enough it tripped my CEL and pulled P1300, P1399, P0301 cylinder 1 misfire and P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Turned out, i had a blown head gasket Compression test was cylinders 1-4 = 90, 180, 120, 180. I felt the car running a sluggish but i never through a CEL and thats w/ an OBD2 ecu.
