Default 1998 Honda Accord v6 Coupe 2dr automatic transmission problems

I just recently bought a 1998 Honda Accord v6 Coupe 2dr with transmission problems, after heavy research it turns out that transmission is a common problem with these models. I have talked with a honda certified mechanic and he has told me that I will have to get it replaced since it's a common known problem with these models and I am looking at around $1500-$3000 range in expenses for a new transmission to fix the issue permanently...

It's a automatic transmission, and it slips when the car shifts from first gear to 2nd gear and you can feel the car jerk/shake forward a little when that happens.

Any suggestions what I should do? Since it's a common known defect with these cars, shouldn't Honda do something about this instead of me having to pay for their mistakes???

Any help/suggestions/opinions would be appreciated!

You seem to have done some searching but not enough.

The transmission is covered by Honda up to I believe 100k HOWEVER I do not believe the 98 models were covered (for whatever reason)

Your best bet is to call American Honda directly and speak with them.

If your car fits all the warranty requirements (under 100k or whatever mileage it is) and is in good shape other than that I would say you have a better chance of getting it covered.

The car currently has 228,000 KM, thats about 141 000 miles on it so it's beyond warranty plus you said the 1998 model is not covered for some reason.

I am from Canada.
