Default Door Locks

I would like to get some kind of powered locks. I do know I do not want to get poppers, so dont suggest them please. I was wondering how hard it would be to hook them up to my 93 del sol? And exactly what would I need to have them? Obviously I would need the wires to hook up the power... so from the donor car how much of the wire would i take? The door locks came from a 95 + right? In the del sol where is the switch even located? Thank-you. Victor

Has anybody done this yet? I think I mostly would need help with the wiring. Any ideas?

By saying donor car you have the full lock set up from a car that recently had power locks? If you have the whole lock set up already its not much harder to go from there. The lock switch is in and of itself a switch, so all you need to do is make sure you have a power wire a load wire and a ground wire on the switch. I don't know what the order is hooked up to the switch, but you need those three wires. Hopefully that gets you started on it, I haven't looked to much into my locks yet but I will be as soon as organic chemistry lets out so I can be more helpful

Well, I dont actually have the locks yet... I was gonna go to a junk yard and grab what I need. I was also wondering if it would be easier to just use the doors off the junked car or just parts... My doors are in pretty good shape.... Can I put a power door lock setup on a 93 del sol door?

Yea you can, but you need an entire setup - locks, wires, switches, rods, actuators, key's, the whole nine yards. I mean it is possible but it will take a good bit of work

dang, i was hoping to do it to my 94 sol... I was going to add a key less entry but all i have are the actuators and some rods.. Damn so does that mean i need the original power locks to work with my car? Or can i just use the actuators i have and wire that up and see if it works?

OK well no you do not need to have original power locks, if you have them it makes keyless entry worlds easier to add, but if you don't you have to get a power lock set-up to convert your current set-up to power lock/keyless entry set-up.

if you get keyless entry then all you need are the actuators and the keyless brain itself will provide the power to lock and unlock your door.......but you will have to do each door with its own actuator.....

I have never put actuators on but my older brother has and he said it wasn't too bad, honestly I have never done anything with Del Sol's so I don't know much about them and I don't know the compatibility car wise of them.

Adding factory power door locks is a pain and in my opinion not worth it unless you have the doner car right next to you and you can pull things straight off. But if you don't I would just pick up some door lock actuators from ebay or a alarm and stereo shop. They simply clamp onto the existing rod in your door and you mount the body of the motor with a strap, run the wires into the car and use two relays. Go to the 12voltsource.com to find out how to wire a relay if you've never done it before. Then you can either trigger the relays threw a switch or threw your alarm.

Not to be flippant, but the conversion is basically getting parts from a donor Sol.

Scour junk yards until you find a donor car, then rip it's doors apart. You'll need locks, motors, rods, panels... basically everything except the exterior sheet metal and glass. Finding a VTEC Sol is nigh impossible, but you might be able to find an Si.
