beastyITR procures a "special" ITR tranny for sale
needless to say,
many of you know that i recently had a theft problem with my car.
so i've been hunting for parts here and there, including a transmission.
this guy that doesnt live too far aways from me, BeastyITR, is trying to sell his ITR tranny w/o a VIN. When i email him about the transmission, his reply is, he took it off because he was painting his car or something. (this in itself doesnt make sense). Then I tell him that its odd that he is ripping off VIN tags on his transmission if hes painting his car. He replies and claims to have papers for the tranny. This again struck me as really odd, because he claimed it was his own tranny out of his car.
I tell him no thanks. A few weeks go by and i completely forgot he was the guy i spoke to before, and messaged him again (bad memory). Here is his response:
Now my response: No, I dont go around assuming everything ITR being sold is stolen. But then again, when someone goes around selling transmissions with the VIN ripped off its definately quite odd. Your behavior also speaks for yourself.
Granted, sometimes I act like an *******, but I've been very courteous and forthright with you, and you only have been way too anally defensive, with a story which fell apart.
In some odd and rare chance that the tranmission you are selling is from a legitimate car, why rip the VIN off? And why act like an ***?
that's just

BeastyITR (5:09 PM 6/23/2002): ur like a little kid who G.I. Joe got stolen out of Day Care. GROW UP!!!! Just because ur Type R got Stolen don't mean that everyone selling those parts are stolen. **** HAPPENS, get over it... U need to get a life and stop harassing people.
00-0187 (5:33 PM 6/23/2002): actually, if your tranny had a vin number attached to it i wouldnt have a problem with it. thing is, your trying to pawn off a tranny with the vin number you removed.

ok.
some clarification from beasty:
Like i said before, if it really is the case, then no worries. Good luck in your selling, its just really odd that you rip off the vin tag off a transmission, because its illegal to start pasting vin tags on other parts...and to the transmission thats being sold without a vin tag, thats also very illegal, where cops will actually seize the car for a vinless tranny. And do you really believe the person you are going to sell your transmission to is going to follow you home, scheme up a way to break into your house and steal your car? Something just doesnt add up.
I really am looking for a transmission, but if your ripping off your VIN for another transmission, my question is, why is the transmission your getting without a vin number?

BeastyITR (5:39 PM 6/23/2002): Well, for your info, who every buys the tranny, will watch me take off the vin, soooo, aint no one trying to beat no body, I am selling the tranny not the vin, mind u i'm still using the car the vin is comong off of, so i need it for my security reasons..........

jason, wheres the best place to contact them? through the police?
i'm not sure they would do anything at this point, since I dont know where beastyITR actually lives.

why would he wanna sell his type r tranny from his own type R?
i am assuming when he stated the vin # is off the car he is
currently using, i'm assuming his car is a type R.
if he's selling his ITR tranny to someone with an ITR...
why would a person who already has an ITR wanna
steal his?

Well not to defend Beastly,I've seen people take off vin tags from the block, tranny when they polish them out.Me myself did not for this reason.
Well if he is telling the truth have him send you a pic of the Vin from the car on the lower corner of the windsheild, and the vin tag that was supposedly torn off and see if they match up.
i met him personally last week. i think its possible your barking up the wrong tree. odd? yes...but understandable. Say he's purchasing another tranny with better lsd, gearing etc. The vin on the tranny is still associated to him. Personally? i could care less...i'll document it with receipts and photos etc. but...maybe he doesn't want the tranny to come back at some point with issues. people do the stupidest ****. Just like you want a vin on there...and he doesnt....maybe i stated his issue...and maybe your issue would be that later on down the line he doesn't say its missing...someone stole it and there it is...right in your car. Its simple...ifyou want it...buy it and just say you built it with a salvage case
I can see where he is coming and could agree with that. The one Big problem is that as far as I know the Removal of a VIN plate from an Engine, Tranny, dash etc. is against the law (Federal law)
and the buyer should know this before wanting this tranny. if he doesn't then its on beasty. its still on the tranny...not removed. i locked it because its not stolen...its a judgement of character...not about a stolen part.
