Default Question on buying an amp for my S2k

So I have an S2k, with a custom box holding 2 8 Inch Kicker CompVR subs which are about 400watts max each sub, to get it to sound super clean what type of amp should i get? How many watts and how many channels? I want a matching Kicker AMP, I have a DHD amp which isn't all that great, I just picked up the subs, they haven't been installed yet, but what type of Kicker AMP would be cool? Can you guys list suggestions and price ranges?

Anybody have any pictures of subs installed in the trunk or wherever else you can manage to shoehorn them into these cars?

not a fan of kicker amps...there are much better ones out there...

alpine makes some super nice tiny *** amps...perfect for the s2k, fit in tight places and stackable....pdx i think they are called?
jl audio are my personal fav amps, i have two of em in my S.

kicker isnt clean. one thing i do know is car audio. if you want clean get xtant, ppi art series, phoenix gold titanium or zx series, jl anything, zapco, macintosh, alpine is decent, some eclipse is decent, some diamond audio, and sinfoni. if you are trying to go cheap get an old school phoenix gold zx450. i wish i never sold mine. they are about 150-225 on ebay. kicker also makes a zx450 but pgs is way better. just my .02 cents. 400 watts each you shouldnt push more then 500 watts to both of them. smaller the box the more you can push. because its an s2k you would prolly have a smaller box meaning you could over power a little. i dont know how much i trust kicker 8s. if you have an alpine deck just get an alpine amp. they have a 400watt mono alpine amp for like 130 on ebay brand new.

Has anybody got an experience with the RSX sub other than sitting in your garage? I see it's a powered 5', but I can't imagine it makes any real bass. :dunno:

Mines sitting in the body shop right now, but can you fit one in the back behind the seat where the factor 6.5 is or is that area pretty used up?

since our cars suck with the factory system, i personally would rather focus first on the componments due to sound loss with the top down. myself did this and i am very much more satisfied with more mid and high range vs pure bass. jus my .02 though. but to answer your question your ideal setup would be a 800sh 2 channel/mono block amp to run each sub to about 200-400 watts per sub depending on how your wiring is.

He had it in his integra and it was good enough for me. Not too loud and not too soft. The guy is 40+ years old and use to road race.

the orbis sub weights like 12 pounds. you could prolly find a amp that weighs 13 pounds for a total of 25. not bad

100 lbs actually does mean a lot. i have a 13w7 and xtant x1001 in my 00 civic coupe. i notice a definite difference in acceleration. id say maybe a few 1-3 tenths of a second i have never measured it. but it does feel sluggish. buy maybe its because the sub alone weights like 70lbs not counting the box or amp so maybe im at 150pounds. it does seem like handling is better with more weight in the back

my entire system weighs around 65lbs... nothing fancy, just a JL e1200 amp and piece of ****** **** Sub that is getting replaced very soon by a JL W1 and a custom trunk box... bups real nice, only have prolly 130 watts running to the sub and im happy. Plus youll find out really soon that everything rattles on the car and it is sooooooo annoying... good luck with the purchase

jl w1 sucks get a jlw3v3. my first subs ever were jl 10w3s the ogs. clean loud sub not great on the lows but for all around bass its a good choice. right now my bro has jl 500 mono and 2 12w3v2s. they slam hard. i still prefer the lows produced by the 13w7. although i may cash in for treo, idmax, 10w6s, elemental designs, or dd designs. im feelin those eds.
