ok in my other post i finished my enclosure. now i'm just trying to make the sound good. i have alpine CDA-7892 with the built in amp ot power speakers. then i have a Bazooka ELA300.1 which is rated at 300watts at 4 ohms. i have the Jl 10w3v2d2. supposedly its rated at max 300 watts at 4 ohms DVC. i wired the sub in series at 4 ohms and i'm currently running the amp to it and not turning it up a lot so i can break in the sub first. someone told me the amp is only pushing 150 watts? should i get a better amp? or is the other guy incorrect at saying 150 watts only?
also to adjust the amp settings do i mess with the min-max LEVEL **** which is basically the gain? then mess with the bass boost? what is the x-over on the amp? any help would be great thanks.

thanks a link to my amp with specs

you do not want your amp's max wattage to exceed the max rating on your speakers or you will blow them in due time. your friend was probably referring you to 150 watts being the RMS on the amp.
I run a 556 max watt audiobahn w12t on an amp that max watts at 550. keeping the system sounding clean is better than over driving the speaker till it blows. I also bridged mine to cut the resistance in half.
If you want to change the settings on the amp you should turn your favorite music on as loud as you will listen to it and then start changing your gain while it plays. if it starts to destort then you are turning it too high and you should back it down. if you dont think you can do this without ruining what you have then take it to a car stereo shop most of them will do it for free.

Since the amp is 2ohm stable you should wire your sub to 2 ohms to get the best result. If you wire it at 4 ohms then the amp is not going to perform as you expected. I would set the gain to 3/4 and the x-over point to 80hz to break in your sub. And set the bass boost to 1/4. Try that and find out how it sounds.
Frequency Response 20-250
Fuse 60 amp
Crossover
Thermal, Short Circuit and Overload Protection
Max Power Output 500w
Power @ 4 OHM 300 x 1 @ 4 ohms
Power @ 2 OHM 400 x 1 @ 2 ohms
Signal To Noise Ratio 115
Battery Voltage Range 10.5-14.4
Bass EQ
this is the info. i got online. So what u can do rewire yur woofers to 2ohms and Whala!! u got yurself 400watts. If yur woofer is 300rms and this would be the the best set up. Now if yur woofer is 300max and then i suggest to keep it 4ohms.

Keeping the system sounding clean is done by using an amp that's rated higher than the sub. This will prevent the amp from clipping and taking out the sub. You just have to be careful setting the gain so you don't bottom out the sub and damage it.

the jl10w3v2d2 is either wired in series at 4 ohms, or parallel @ 1 ohms...so what should i do? it was recommended that i run it at 4 ohms so thats why i went that way. how i would tell if the amp is clipping ?

You have to put a scope on the output. When it's clipping, you will see the top/bottom of the wave will be flattened. Otherwise, just listen for distortion, but you have to distinguish if the distortion is coming from the amp or the sub.

I like to keep my speakers for more than 3 years so keeping it reversed and using over 300watt rms'd rated amps and subs lets me do that without distortion. granted if i turn it up to the highest volume on my stereo it will destort but not before my ears start to hurt.
