Default Blown Motor, now what?

So i got a 97 civic hatch dx manual. just blew the motor last week looks like a rod let go or something. big hole in oil pan from what i can see. trying to decide what to do with it.

so what wrong with the car is the blown motor, bad cv joints, will need brakes, clutch, and tires soon as well.

so i guess what i'm asking is should i fix it (stock engine or maybe y8 motor), part it out, sell it as-is, or engine swap it?

if i put in a new engine, i can do the work no problem, just don't have alot of money to put into it ($500 at most prob) and i can drive my mustang untill i get it done.

Where are some good places to get a new motor from? what all do i need to add the y8 vtec motor with minimal issues?

y8 is a bolt in deal. you'll need to modify wiring. as far as where to buy a y8 from that should easy to find locally. fixing your y7 won't be worth it.

Bad CV joints?

LoL

Yeah, you slung a rod bro, the block = owned.

I'd step it up to a Y8, it's just bolt-in + wiring up for VTEC (adding <5 wires).

EDIT:
Or you can just drop another Y7 in there, as others have said, fixing your Y7 isn't worth it, they're a dime a dozen.

yeah cv joints are bad, so it needs new axles i guess.

i wonder if i can just get a whole front end from an ex and install it from the bottom up.

that would in no way be cheaper even if you did find one.

I picked up a ~40k mile COMPLETE Y7 swap for $250. If money is tight, I'm sure you can find a longblock dirt cheap.
