Help Tach Problem

Default Help Tach Problem

Ok weird problem
lets say i cruise at like 35 mph . everything is fine and the motor is running great . but one problem the tach needle is jumping from like 2-5,000 rpm like crazy. it does this when i haul *** to so i never know exactly what rpm im at besides the sence of sound
oh yea its a first gen b16 in an 89 Hb
people have told me that its a dist. problem but i dont know where to start
any help would be appreciated Thanks

a good start (and easy place to start) would be to check your grounds first, then go thru with the process of elimination, wires, distributor, etc
