Default Just got run off the road, suspension damage questions...

Drunk people driving at 12:15pm FTW!!!

EDIT: The other driver was drunk, NOT me, sorry for the confusion.

Short version:

The car's walking around while driving now, and there's a clunking whiring noise while taking a turn from the side that went off the road.

What could this possibly be? The wheel APPEARS straight, but I think I'll get an alignment just to make sure.

Any input welcome.

Longer version:

I just got run off the road in my own neighborhood by a drunk driving neighbor. He was driving a newer ('05-'07) maroon Toyota mini van, I know the guy lives in my neighborhood, I've seen him before.

Anyway, he swerved AT me, not in front of me, AT me, if he had made contact, it would have been with my door, and I'd have massive head trauma right now. After he sent me off the road, I got out of the car, flicked him off and yelled "F*CK YOU!" the line of traffic stopped behind me and in the other lane, were all flicking him as well, the guy stopped in the car next to me said, "You're lucky man, he just ran two other people off the road in the other lane, he's driving like he's drunk."

He slowed down after this happened, so I jumped in my car and went after him, I could still see him going around the bend when I started after him, and right around the bend, he was gone (i.e. He pulled in his garage and shut the door). I don't know where he lives, or who he is, but I'll see him again, and put it all together.

Longer story short, got a police report made just in case I need to file insurance on this (I hope not), but the car's walking around while driving now, and there's a clunking whiring noise while taking a turn from the side that went off the road.

What could this possibly be? The wheel APPEARS straight, but I think I'll get an alignment just to make sure.

Any input welcome.

Well the good news is that he has got to drive his van again sometime soon, i am sure you'll see it again. If you saw the whereabouts of him turning in somewhere, could you have the police inquire about the neighbors that live there and the vehicles they drive. Seems to me you have a lot to go off of.

Dude that sucks ***, you need to camp out and wait for this guy to leave his house and then stand in the street when he gets close so that he stops, hopefully he won't be drunk b/c he might run you over Might be an axle, when I went off into a ditch I believe it damaged my axle (didn't cause immediate problems so I'm not sure if this is why I had to get my axle replaced) but I had acura fix under warranty and they didn't question anything, so I'm really just guessing

knuckle/spindal might be bent. Go get an alignment. Depending on what is off you kinda know where to start. I had a "when street racing goes bad incident" and bent the rear trailing arm and front spendal/knuckle. The rear obvously had visual negative camber. Replaced and it was perfect again. The front you couldn't even see but it pushed bad to the right. The alignment shop showed me where it was -3* camber on the front wheel. We replaced the knuckle/hub and it was perfect agin. The knuckle was actually rubbing the inside of the wheel which is the noice i heard. best of luck

If the caster is really off i heard that can be from a bent lca. My skunk2 upper control arms lived through the offoad event and didn't even lose their settings. Supprising since its only held tight with a few allan heads on each side.

Write a note to him.

I got a letter in the mail with my address for the return and no sig. It told me I'm in violation of the neighborhood code (bullshit) by having an inoperable vehicle parked in the street. I got this the day that I finished putting my new engine in it. I wrote a nasty and colorful reply letter and taped it on my window inside the car. I jacked the car up, put the front on stands and took the wheels off. Cops came out a couple hours later after lots of people stopped to read it. They told me they're towing my car as it is inoperable. I got in and started it up. They told me they're still towing since its parked in a public street. I started putting the wheels back on and told them I had a flat and not to waste their time with paperwork because the judge will throw it out. They kept writing so I went to the garage and brought them one of my Slipstreams with a bald, corded, and flat Azenis on it.

assface neighbor = 1
cops = 0
me = 2

Anywho, what I was trying to say is kick his *** c-bass.

The wheel is not visibly misaligned, I think it might be in the toe/camber, it was a tough jolt to the car, it might have tugged on my camber kit a bit, or shifted the tie rod.

I'm getting some Ground Controls, so after I do that, I'll get an alignment, no reason to get two. Hopefully nothing's bent, I just dealt with this bullshit with my Prelude, it's not fun.

I asked the HP officer what I should do, and if I should start knocking on doors, he said he can't recommend that, but if I see the van again, get a plate number, and confront him if possible. He said it will be dealt with if I can figure out who he is/get a plate number.

I'm confident I'll see him again, I see his van all the time.

Sounds like you will see him again. Don't do anything rash and just get his plate # to the Cops.

Oh I know, I'm not throwing curse words every other word, and I'm not making idle threats... So I'm not upset.

It could have been worst, I've just kept that in mind. If I hadn't of swerved, and if it weren't for the incredibly brakes this car has, I'd be in the hospital right now, and my caR would be in the insurance salvage lot awaiting me to buy it back.

I'm just going to get the plate number, and if I see where he lives, I will do the following:

*knock knock*

******* - "Hello?"

Me - "Heyyyyyy buddy, how are you?"

******* - "Uhhh, fine..."

Me - "Oh, you don't remember me?"

******* - "No..."

Me - "I'm the guy in that Integra you ran off the road, so here's the deal, you're going to pay for my suspension damage with a check for the amount I'm about to tell you, or I'll call my friend down at Highway Patrol and we'll let him help us settle this, am I making myself clear?"

Hopefully it comes to that.

<--- Always plans out confrontations before executing them. (Believe it or not, they actually end up pretty close to how I expect them to)

Going to his door and having that convo could be considered harrassment when this goes to court. Just let a judge get your $$$ and watch him pay for more that just your caR.

Might be a decent idea.

The officer said because there were no other witnesses to make a statement, and no vehicle to vehicle damage, chances are, nothing could be done.

I think the only way to get my monies, is to confront him.

Yeah, my luck's been crappy lately. The door on our brand new delivery van CAME APART when I opened it last week. The skin came apart from the frame when I opened the door. This left the body gap around the door VERY off, it looked like the front frame was pushed back a .5", when it reality, the door itself was forward an .5" inch.

My dad about went balistic, told me I was lying, and that I really hit something. I kept telling him, "If I hit something, WHERE'S THE DAMAGE?!"

After we took the door off, he saw I was telling the truth.

Just plain bad luck with everything lately.

THAT SUCKS!!! i tried not to drive at all last night for that very reason. drunkdrivers FTL. they see a yellow car think its a yellow light and speed up.
nice ninja reflexes though! id rather have grass in my tire than glass in my face anyday.

it wanders like how bad?
when i was building my car i bought my steering rack from our local importer shop and it turned out to have a bad actual rack. which caused it to just sway and swerve when driving. off and on. because the car like hit a curb or something. i dont think your actual arm could be bent but it could be your
wheelbearing
tierod
upper/lower ball joint.
and that whirring sound could be just your dust shield or maybe the caliper/bent warped rotor.

as far as the rear goes you can usually visually inspect for a toe or camber issue. in my experience it doesnt usually make the car wander much so id bet its your front suspension.

hope that helped, i have had to fix quite a few front suspensions of my friends when tokyodrift came out so....

It feels like it just pulled out of alignment.

I know what damaged suspension feels like, I rebuilt my Prelude's suspension piece at a time, I know what a headache it is.

I REALLY hope it's just out of alignment.

Integras have pretty strong subframes, and believe me, when you have a bent subframe, YOU KNOW IT. My Prelude hit a curb at 75mph, it had a bent subframe (Along with everything else), and you could tell. Preludes/Accords have rather weak subframes, I found that out the hard way.
