Default anyone done a remote turbo set up?

the reason i ask is cause i have an h22 in my civic and it seems like i couldnt even do a log mani with a turbo while keeping my AC, PS.

i've read a lot on the remote turbo and you dont need an intercooler (from what i've read). that would kind of make it a sleeper.

anyone have input? info? im debating it a lot lately and it even got me to post instead of reading everyone else's threads

bad idea in my mind, my buddy has one on his formula firebird and is having all kinds of problems with it. pipes breaking, turbo contacting trunk and ground...

because its not bolted to a sturdy manifold but to a semi flexible rubber mounted pipe at the back of the car.

remote mounts on Hondas is less than practical; however it has been done before....i would imagine though that the lag of a 57 trim remote mount would be comparable to a GT42 in the engine bay

unless you size A/R accordingly

After you read a little more into it you'll find the no intercooler thing to be bullshit.

they say you dont have to run an intercooler because the 8 freaking feet of pipe to make it to the throttle body acts like an intercooler exchanging the heat. plus the wind from under the car will cool the charge pipes.

would I recomend running it with out an intercooler....no

would I recomend running a turbo mounted under the car...hell no.

I saw an integra with the STS turbo kit and it wasnt a bad kit. looked kinda retarded but it was faster than I would've expected with all the lag...but when He was pulling into the parking lot and drove over the speed bump...wait for it....w.a.i.t f.o.r .i.t....he ripped it freaking off! luckily he had a steel oil line going to it so his engine didnt hemorage oil all over the parking lot. but the down side was he drug it under the car for 300 feet or so on crappy pavement. so the turbo was fubar'd including the mountings and charge pipes, and waste gate.

realy though why would you want to spend all that money to put under the car and spray water all over it cracking pipes all the time...how long do you think the turbo will last in those conditions?

Solution: spend a little more money now and get a bad *** manifold to put the turbo where it fits in the engine bay and haul *** for a few more years.

A pipe is not nearly as efficient at transmitting heat as an intercooler though of course.

Plus, everyone i've seen run any decent amount of pressure on Camaros/Firebirds said the intercooler kit was a must.

well of course....I was only explaining why they say you dont need one. any turbo running more than 5 psi needs an intercooler!
