Obd2-Obd1 jump harness help
i have a 97 del sol S and i just droped an obd1 b16a3 motor. i am currently runnin with an p73 (obd2) ecu. i wanted to switch to an obd1 ecu because im throwin an engine code 23. but im confused as to what the difference is between an OBD2A and an OBD2B wiring conversion harness. can nebody help? thanks in advance
obd2a is 96 and 97 adn obd2b is 98 and up.. i just put a obd1 ls motor ina 97 teg adn it had to have the obd2a harness... hope this helsp and good luck with
A code 23 means the knock sensor isn't working, or you haven't wired it up yet.
Why don't you just wire the knock sensor up and save your money?

You must be running a JDM P73, huh?
If it was a US spec you'd be throwing about 4 more codes - secondary o2, CKF sensor, evap system leak, catalyst efficiency low, etc. etc.

Depending on how you like to do stuff, a conversion harness and OBD-I ECU might be the best way. I never looked much into adding a knock sensor when I put a Z6 LB in my 96 hatch. I got about as far as the Radioshack hack and quit searching after that. Might be a little more cost wise to do the harness, but it is more professional unless you're good with wiring.

When i checked for the cel codes... it only gave me 23 and that's it. I did check on my knock sensor and its wired up. the wiring is kinda sloppy though. i wanna convert it to obd1 because if its still throwing a 23 code with the obd1 ecu then ill know for sure that its a valid cel code. plus if i keep the obd2 ecu i might be chasin other codes that the engine might not have anyways. idk im kinda getting frustrated with this. i just wanna get rid of that code for now...

yeah... it is quite expensive. i do have the obd1 p72 ecu already though. all i need is the wiring harness wich is about at the most $80 more... sux

Well if you are running a JDM P73 ECU it's only OBD2 in plug anyways - it doesn't look for OBD2 specific stuff like 2nd o2 sensor, evap system, CKF sensor, etc. etc.
In other words you're already basically OBD1 anyways, so adding the jumper and a chipped P28 (because the P28 doesn't even look for the knock sensor) will only help you.

I have a 00 em1 and the guy I bought it off converted the engine with obd ( b20 bottom end with gsr head) it won’t pass smog of course cuz it’s not reading the correct ecu obd2b. Could I use a jumper harness to make the ecu compatable just to do a crooked smog? NEED HELP TO GET MY CAR ON THE ROAD! I know I need swap it out with a b16a2 but what can I do for a short cut for now. HELP!!!
