k ive searched n i know to take off the clips n the 3 12mm bolts. then to make a straight edge mark from the dizzy to the head to align it. BUT my q is what if im usin a whole new dizzy? how is the straight edge goin to help me align it? also what happens if the new dizzy nipple thing that goes into the cam isnt the same direction as the old one? can i just turn the nipple to align it w/the cam?

 

You need a timing light - you will have to redo the ignition timing. Thats all.

If its not going in all the way, with the teeth lined up.....turn the teeth 180* over.
Theyre aligned and set up you cant install it wrong. Just turn it and it will go in, I promise.

turn the nipple 180. It should slide in. You can try to adjust timing without a timming light but you have to listen to the sound of the engineand you could still be off. It is a lot easyer to do it with a timing light just pick one up they are cheep enough and a good tool to have in your tool collection

Yeah, it depends I guess, I always used to be a big fan of the timing light but when I swapped the last dizzy on my Y8 I just threw it on there - it ran and didn't mis up to the redline, so I was fine with it. Just threw it on, aligned it, and tightened it down, didn't even think twice about the timing. I'm sure it's off a bit and when I get off on winter break I intend to change it, but it's nothing noticeable & runs 100%.

 

Go to autozone and rent a timing light...its free. Its how you do it properly.

Yes, just turn the nipple. Not the whole distributor...

k i got the idle stable but when i push the gas it bogs then dies. still the timin u think?

 

you could have made the mark on the motor side where the center of the dist. belonged that way no matter what dist. u put it lines up with the center...but try too loosen the bolts and move the dist. until it feels better. good luck
