Default overheating prob.

my car overheated this morning for the first time and has done the same since......it warms up fine and warms up to normal temp. then the idle will jump to 2500-3000rpms and then go back to normal and the temp gauge starts moving to the top and stays there

first make sure that you got plenty of coolant in system,, if low . pressure test system to chk for leaks, ( idle surging could be low on coolant )

if radiator is full , feel the lower rad hose make sure that it gets hot , if it stay cool or just warm, t-stat is sticking closed or partially closed.

if t-stat opens ok, once engine is at normal temp , make sure that fans come on,
chk this and keep us posted
