Anyone know how to remove the sliding pins from a caliper bracket?

 

pull the rubber boot off from either end
the slider comes right off
unless the grease is all dried up inside..then youd need to pull harder

 

I thought that they just slid right out. But I wasn't sure if there was a trick to it because they aren't budging at all. Turns out they're completely seized up with rust. I have them soaking in fluid right now and will heat them up to try to get them out later. Thanks.

 

Just in case I can't get these to move, any suggestions on any vendors to get new caliper brackets. All the places I've found either don't carry them or require that you buy the caliper with it. I don't want to go to a junk yard because I'd imagine I'll run into the same problem again with a used bracket. I wonder how expensive it would be to buy these directly from Honda.

it doesn't look like they sell the caliper bracket assembly.

 

Mine were a bit stuck too. Just pull them far enough out that you twist them. Then hold the boot lightly and twist the pin back and forth, while pulling outward.

 

Unfortunately they are completely rusted in. I soaked them for 24 hours in wd-40, tried heating them up with a torch, tried twisting them as well as trying to push them out with a chisel and hammer. No luck. I guess I'll have to find a junk yard set that aren't too bad and regrease and refurbish them myself. Unless someone knows where I can get caliper brackets seperately (without new calipers).

 

put the pin end on a vise and twist the bracket as much you could
you should be able to break it loose...if not break it (then youd need a new bracket)
but at least you tried

mine were pretty stuck too...but they were able to rotate very slightly...
i just kept working it till i got it to come out

 

Good Idea! Definately worth a try. I'll do it after this weekend's rally-x. In case they're going to break, it's better to have half your brake pads rubbing the rotor than none.

 

I had the same problem, but eventually got them out. Now that I got them apart is there a way to rebuild them to get all the rust out?

 

Use a wire brush to clean the rust out of the caliper bracket. Then buy new slide pins from the dealer...

If you need to replace the slide's rubber boots, you will have to buy a caliper rebuild kit -

01473-SV4-000 CALIPER SET, RR. $19.16 rear (only does one side)

I use the silicone brake lube packets from Azone, Advance, O'Reilly, etc. $1.19ea. for the slides and the spring pieces on the brackets where your pads go.

I was able to get new slides for a Lexus RX300 SUV at NAPA - each kit came with an upper and lower slide pin and the bolts for the caliper.
