timming belt help please
hi, i have a b18c5 and i was changing the timing belt and was having some issues. when ever i put the timing belt on it ends up moving just a little. first i lined up the crank with the tdc mark and then the cam gears with their marks then put the belt on. after i turn the motor three teeth, i tighten the tennstioner and rotate the motor six times, and it ends up being a little off everytime. any help would be very helpful, thanks.
ok,from the honda manual:
after lining up the TDC marks, install timing belt
1: crankshaft
2: adjusting pulley
3: water pump pulley
4: exhaust camshaft pulley
5: intake camshaft pulley
loosen and retighten the adjusting bolt to tension the belt
rotate crankshaft about 4 or 6 turns counter clockwise so that the belt postitions on the pulleys
adjust timing belt tension:loosen the bolt 1/2 turn, rotate crankshaft counter clockwise 3 teeth on the pulley tighten adjusting bolt
check the crankshaft pulley and camshaft pulley at TDC
i had some trouble with mine to just be patient

that sounds way harder then the common way at the dealership. line all your marks up, install a couple screwdrivers in the holes up top to hold the cams straight, put belt on starting with the front of the motor leaving all slack in the back on the tensioner, push tensioner with finger pressure until slack is gone and tighten 14mm on tensioner. done.

you guys all make it waaay to hard. Just take a wire coat hanger, get it in the hole on the tensioner where the spring is...pullup with some force until the belt is good and tight and you or someone else tighten the 14mm bolt.
The belt will be slightly off at the crank no matter what you do..unless your off by a tooth on the cam gears, which if you do it right and tension properly you won't be, you will have no issues.

That's exactly what I found when I did mine. I tried the Helm's way two times and the belt jumped a tooth or two each time. I was soooo pissed and had to realign each time.
Coat hanger ftw
