Hardtop Help
Ok, so I spring for an OEM top, right? Got it last month. I'm so happy. I put it on the car, kinda did a speedy job of it, but nothing seems to be too much the matter with it, so I leave it and it does great...until last weekend. I guess it managed to shake it's way loose a little. So it started to rattle. In an attempt to solve the problem, I went back in and re-adjusted things to make it fit more snug. Seemed to work great, until I was driving around for about an hour and a half or so, and then it went from snug to undrivable in about 30 mins. I don't understand...I was under the impression that these tops are made to be quiet.
How do I shut this thing up?

Take it off and give it to me.
LOL
I'd just go back and try to tighten everything up. Where is the noise/rattle coming from?

The problem is...I got a copy of the dealership Haynes manual instructions, and they give you a much of measurements, but nowhere in there does it say anything about changing the front strikers, although I'm going to do this anyhow.

Found the problem...I go to install the "hardtop" front strikers, only to find that the original strikers are loose as a goose. I tightened them down, problem solved...at least for now.
To answer your question, Shy_Guy, mine seemed bouncey in the rear, but the front latches were rattling like crazy...and now we know why.
I'll update this thread if it becomes a problem again.

If you didn't install the HT strikers, you can get by with a cheap fix by switching the worn strikers from one side to another so that the latches grab an un-worn area. I went ahead an installed the HT striker set anyway since they did have a slightly tighter fit. My S has 114k miles on it...thought I'd treat it right.

Hey guys I am a new to the forum, looking for a little help on hardtops. Will the factory hardtop fit all years? I found a used one on a 03, will it work with an 04 using the same hardware?
FYI, the hardtop is for the low budget track days (PDX) through the SCCA, otherwise the top is down.

If you intend to use the defroster, you will need to buy the wiring harnesses for your 04. You already have a switch and wiring for defroster in the 04 where the earlier models did not. I can get the breakdown of how the harnesses were distributed if you need. I think that 00-01, 02-03, 04-07 are the model year harness groupings.

I was looking for some help, sometimes the dealers don't know what the H there are talking about. The last time I went to a dealer I had to diagnose the electrical problem with the service manager (bulletin online), the technician wanted to replace my clutch, so I am not overly confident of "dealer" service. Some are good, some not so good, and many don't have much experience with the S2000.
I hope to pick it up from a seller, put it on, and drive home. Just wanted to see if anybody had any problems. Don't plan on using the defroster so it sound like this should be a easy fit. Thanks.

You don't know my dealer.
There was a recall on the dash in my friend's '07 S2000, they had a problem with bubbling. So he takes it in to have it fixed. Honda replaces the dash, no problem...until about a month later when someone points out to him that there's no VIN plate on his dash. Needless to say, he won't go back.
I was taking mine there for oil changes until I got in my car and there was oil all over my steering wheel, shift ****, and e-brake handle. Apperantly this kid didn't know how to wash his hands before driving a customer's car. I don't let them touch my car anymore.
I asked them to order my hardtop...they couldn't figure out how. I know the parts manager down there...she couldn't even figure it out.
I doubt very highly if anyone down there has even seen a hardtop in person. Now what makes you think I'm going to let them mess with it? I'm highly mechanically inclined myself. I got a set of Haynes install directions and read them. I already found the problem and fixed it myself.
PS. Thanx for the tip, though, S@antos. You're the man.
