Idle surging
i Have a 93 honda civic, 1.6 SOHC VTEC, i get constant surging when idling in park, drive, reverse and neutral. the car is an automatic. I have replaced the IAC valve 3 times, checked hoses for leaks and found nothing. As a temperary fix i have plugged the wholes leading to the FITV, but i have checked that and everything seems fine. any suggestions???

replace the pcv valve. they are most of the time the culprit and the most overlooked.
the run about $3 at any part store.

checked the PCV like suggested don't hear or see a problem with it. inspected and cleaned. haynes said to unplug main hose to intake manifold and plug open end. If you don't hear the valve plug then replace it. Mine did plug.
why when i plug the two wholes in the throttle body that lead to the FITV does the engine correct the idle problem. Should i replace the FITV or try to bypass it.

i didn't say check it, i said replace it. there is a big difference. by the way, how did you check it? did you unplug it and shake it? if it rattles, then it's still good. no rattle, no good.
besides, what's $3?

is it throwing a CEL? My 95' del sol had a similar problem and it turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor. If you have a voltmeter its an easy test

FITV = Fast Idle Thermo Valve
@ Ellis, I just replaced me intake mani & throttle body with the Skunk2 pro series on my 99 civic 5 spd ...I had the surging idle problem.
Come to find out the fuse to the ECU ( Mine is stock ) Was busted...this is the fuse under the hood.
When I replaced it, it ran great!
Hope this helps.
