Default over-cooling

I've got a bit of problem with overcooling, my 95 f22b1
will not reach normal temp.
So far I've replaced the radiator-it was corroded, and
the thermostat.
The engine isn't giving any trouble codes, so it shouldn't
be a sensor. The tension on the drive belt is fine ( manual
said to check it),and I'm not lossing any coolant.
Any help would be greatly appreciated my mpg is
suffering .
thanks~~~~~No-No

have you checked the readings on the upstream o2 sensor? when they start going bad they can cause bad gas milage.

and are you sure the cluster isn't bad? how far up is the temp needle going?

the gas mileage is related to the overcooling
the gauge only goes up just past thelower line
thank you for the help just the same

interesting. so the needle does move.

did you bleed the system after you replaced those two things? and i've read that some thermostats can be bad right out of the box, not sure how true that is though.

If you are a bit handy try this: First you should remove your thermostat, boil a full kettle of water and get a piece of coat hanger wire, hook your thermostat to the coat hanger wire and lower it down into the boiling hot water so as to not burn yourself. Check to see if the thermostst opens, remove it from the water and then see if it closes properly. If this works your thermostat is not the problem.

edit: your fans aren't stuck on are they?

Yeah the needle moves and fluctuates
differently through rpm range. It very rarely
reaches it normal operating temp.
The fans are not stuck on.
I bleed the system while filling it.
It is like the system has to much or
not enough pressure to close the cooling
loop. thanks again~~~~No-No

it could be the fan switch....it may be keeping the fan on all the time thus keeping the car to cool

negatory, thats highly unlikely. the fan wont pull enough air to overcool a car.

the most likely cause might be you replaced it with a lower temp thermostat than stock. simple way is to take it back out and look for a temp printed on it.

Either the thermostat is opening too soon or not fully closing (wrong or bad thermostat). I think most thermostats are supposed to open at 195 degrees, so if it does open before then, the engine temp will never get up that high, causing bad mileage because the engine is constantly running rich. Or the temp gauge could be bad.

the temp guage works. Original temp for an f22b1 was 170* i'm trying
a new thermostat that is considered med range.
But now i think it is a sensor i still do not get a cel or trouble code
Both fans work fine, they don't get a chance to come on.
The adverage temp around here has been in 60's so
the fuel consumption is Crazy.
thanks all for your help
any more advice, keep it coming

Put in a factory Honda thermostat and bleed fluid through the housing screw.

yeah, for the cost I would try an OEM thermostat and see if that helps. I cant recall what the temp is supposed to be but 170 sounds a little low to me, 195 sounds about right though.

Edit:
looked at a manual and it says that in the test sony22422 described, the thermostat should start to open at 169-176* and should fully open at 194*. So while doing that test, put the thermostat in the water, keeping it off the bottom, and watch it as the water reaches the those temps and see how the thermostat reacts. Obviously you'll need something to see exactly what temp the water is while it's heating up.

well, 194 F is correct.
my suggestion check a manual for presence and location for sensor sending signal to temp gauge.
don't know offhand the test for sensor.
have had this problem on a mazda in past and temp gauge sensor was the culprit.

My cars temp needle or sensor is messed up. It goes up to normal temp range, but when I rev over 5000 the needle drops to c and when I let off the gas it goes back to normal. Have no idea what is causing. Dont know if this has happened to anyone else. And your thermo sounds like it is staying open... Same thing happened to me.

Never did... It seems to run fine, so I have just left it alone.
