Default anti-freeze in oil ?

i took my car to mechanics at my school because it wasn't able to start after a huge rainstorm. they fixed the problem with a new distributor cap, spark plugs, and wiring, but now they're telling me that my car sounds like a diesel engine car and that there was anti-freeze in my oil.

my friend and i did my oil change, we switched it to full-synthetic after draining and flushing the car's oil. i had 5w-30 mobil 1 oil in there. my friend doesn't even have anti-freeze in his garage. we both can't figure out how there would be anti-freeze in my oil unless there was a leak, but the mechanics didn't tell me anything about leakage.

what do you guys think? (and what should i buy )

that sounds like a head gasket....check the radiator and see if there oil inside of the cap if so you need a head gasket

yeah if your headgasket goes you will see oil in your anti freeze like he stated. It also runs the risk of letting you over heat.

i heard the mechanic kinda ask the other guys around him "does he need a head gasket" (he was telling me what parts to get), but he said I didn't need one.

what should i do ? are head gaskets expensive, and are they easy to replace?

thanks

you might wanna take it to another mechanic. Im not sure how hard it is to do seeing you'd need to remove the head, but it shouldn't cost more than like $50 for gasket.

edit: the gasket itself is $65 but theres a kit apparently.

look at the bottomish part of the page.

well.. if i were you i would go to a different machanic and have them check if you aren't sure. but go open up the antifreeze resivor and check it for oil in it. if theres some then yes, you need to replace it.

you have to take the head off of the engine to change it, it's expensive and not easy
