Default Tial 38mm Wastegate, short dump tube

i got a tial 38mm wastegate, with a short dump tube, its about two inchs long, well at idle it dumps exhaust, and sounds like an exhaust leak, it holds boost fine, but shoulds like an exhaust leak...it this normal?

i'm a FI noob....was all about N/A before...liking FI, but running into small problems

If the fire-ring was not installled you would have problems building boost.

Make sure the wastegate is tightened down all the way to the manifold (make sure manifold wastegate flange is not warped) and that there is not leak around the gasket or the gasket itself is blown out (which if it is... you want to get the gasket with the metal crush ring, they seal MUCH better and last longer).

No the fire ring is the metal ring that fits in the wastegate and against the flange.
It isn't the gasket.

a fire ring gasket is not a valve seat... it is the actual gasket that is used to seal the wastegate body to the flange when bolted down.

although terminology is obviously getting mixed up here.

to clarify:
valve seat = metal steped ring that goes into the bottom of the body.
example.

fire ring gasket = gasket between body of gate and manifold with metal crush ring to seal from leaks, which will not blow out or burn up like a standard cheap gasket without.
example.

the car would still boost, but once u put the fire ring in the car, u will be seeing boost alot sooner

on another case you might have your vac line hooked up the the wrong nipple if it has two... I hooked the wrong one on mine once and it dumped exhaust at idle lol still have that damn burn mark

how does the fire ring determind if the boost would hit later or not? doesn't make any sense.......the car holds boost find and hits boost fine...

you've got it mixed up buddy. valve seat = fire ring. i've never heard the gasket called a fire ring gasket, cause the gasket is the same for both sides of the wastegate.

you probably missing the ring. it should not be dumping exhaust out at idle. with the fire ring installed, you'll see boost sooner. i kind of had the same issue, i saw boost coming on really late, till i figured out my gasket was blown out. it did sound like an exhaust leak.

I dont have anything mixed up... the valve seat is just called a valve seat... nothing hard to figure out there. Any other names are slang or misinformation.

Search for fire ring gasket to find out for youself... see that little metal ring made inside the gasket... thats what makes it a "fire ring" gasket and not a regular cheap one. That crush ring is the fire ring.

To the OP: Have you checked to gasket (not the valve seat) to see if its blown out... it is very common as I said above and would make an exhaust leak. While we are debating terms this seems to have run a little off track from your question.
