Default ITR final gear vs LS LSR in turbo applicatoin

Hey wondering what is going to be better, if I have a turbo 18B egine, what is the best option for the drive? I had already gotten a LSD for the LS tranny but was thinking about the JDM LSD with a final drive. With the turbo, you will be going though the gears pretty fast so won't it be better to stick with the LS gears? What about the fifth gear? Is shorter faster for top speed? I mean I will have a built engine, bottem end and everything, probably boosting about 1bar, so what will be faster on the top end? What is better?

no, I think your wrong, but giving what you plan on boosting to, it should give you a great idea of how hard you will be pushing it, I guess a ballpark figure in terms of horsepower would be 280?

You are stupid. PSI (or bar) means jack **** in terms of HP.

Sounds like you need to read up on some information before you start on a porject like this.

PSI will not tell you HP. HP will not tell you quarter mile times. You power band should give you a good indication of quarter mile.

You should really shut up and start reading, you are making yourself look like an ***

It does if it means you only have to go though 4 gears instead of 5, cause it's less time wasted shifting...

AWD Terror is correct. Read up on the FAQ's and you will understand why.

ok, so school me, tell me how it makes any difference how many horses I plan on making? how on earth does that number going to tell you what tranny setup I should go with?

What you should do is find a dyno of a car with a similar set up. See where the car makes the most power, and get a tranny that will keep you in your power band the longest.

Edit: I'm not on here to fight with people, just don't tell me I'm wrong unless you are 100% sure.

AWD was trying to help, by asking what your HP and goals are. Are you shooting for a 1/4 mile time? or are you trying to go 160 on the freeway?
Your power levels can tell you where you want to be in the 1/4 mile. The amount of boost you run tells you nothing without the rest of the setup.

yea, thats about right, I knew that but was hoping to find someone with about the same setup and see what they advise, I never actually said you were wrong, I just said that "I think..." as for searches, man, I can't seem to phrase the right words or something, I can't even get good returns on my searches. I think I'll just take the easy way out and run the LSD in the LS turbo and see how that goes. Everything else seems to be much more money and complicated, so thanks to everyone for their input, I do appreciate it.

Give us ALL the information about your build. We could tell you what numbers to expect with a good tune.

List EVERYTHING performance:

Turbo (brand & size)
Exahust (manifold & cat back size and brand)
Clutch (if your going other than stock)
Injectors
What your tuning with

You get the point

Just curious, with all other variables controlled, ie fuel, spark, timing, etc... isn't boost a decent indicator of power... more boost=more air=more power? Or is that more based on the tune?

No. You need to look at the compressor maps.

Some turbos spool up fast and lose efficency in the top end.

Others take too long to spool up and will never reach full boost on our little 1.8

Just to chip in final drive ratio. A higher final drive ratio will REDUCE your top speed. It will put you in the powerband at lower speeds, compared to the stock final drive.

For example, stock GS-R's redline in 1st around 30 mph. With a higher final drive, it might redline at 25 or even 20 mph.

I've seen people running the ATS 4.9 final drive, and they end up in 5th gear by the time they reach the 1/4 mile, but in each gear they got to redline faster than if it were the stock final drive.

So a GS-R with a theoretical gearing-limited top speed of 150-155 (8200 rpm in 5th gear) might only make it to 120 or so before the fuel cuts out in 5th.

Greddy 18G Kit @ 15psi? Shorter gears are better, you will probably not hit 5th in the 1/4 mile. You can always change the size of the tires to adjust the final drive.

Hey thewrai6th, yes they are Greddy 18G, will that hold 15psi up to redline?

My 19t can hold 10 to redline, and it's tiny. The 18G should hold 15 no problem.
Keep in mind there are better kits for the money.
