ignition cylinder/switch problems

ignition cylinder/switch problems
i jsut changed out my broken ignition switch and cylinder and when i went to start it out it wouldnt crank.
i took the ignition switch(white piece) back out and tried to start and it cranked right up.
when i installed the combo i turned the cylinder to on position and the switch to 1st click. when i put them together it wouldnt start.
any help is appreciated
