2004 CRV with a bad TPS
Hi All~
I have a 2004 CRV with just about 44,000 miles on it. My check engine light has been coming on and off and yesterday night I was able to get to Autozone before the light went off. The technican there told me that I had a bad throttle position sensor. Now I know that this has something to do with my gas and probably my ability to drive the car. What I'm wondering is: What exactly does the TPS do? How do I fix it? Can I fix it myself? Can I drive my car safely with a bad TPS?
Thanks in Advance!
Jess

tps= throttle position sensor. basically you need to replace the sensor (its on the throttle body). yes you could do it yourself but you may have to calibrate. when i worked at honda if i remember right when a car came in with a bad tps we usually replaced the throttle body and sensor since they came together. yes you can still drive your car but there might be some dead spots at certain rpms due to the malfuction of the sensor. hope this helped
TPS is a known problem for the crv. The dealer can goodwill warranty it for you. If they give you a hard time: since it is not available seperate from the throttle body, the whole TB must be replaced which is covered under emissions warranty.
