rattleing sound at 3000 rpm... help!!!
had the same problem. i changed my stock header to a dc header. problem with away. a lot of people say its the heat shield or a gasket inside the header collector.
Get a friend and have them reproduce the sound while revving in neutral. Search for it. Most likely it is a heat shield on the exhaust. You can also use the hammer method, where you tap on the exhaust to reproduce any rattles.

just wondering how many heat shields are there in a dc2? I got that rattle too but only when Im driving, and its not coming from the heat shield thats on the header. So Im guessing I only have the heatshield on the cat that needs to be checked? can someone please verify
i used to have a rattle a few years ago and it was definitely the heat shield on the exhaust, so i took it off.
then earlier this year i replaced the cat and about 4 months later i started hearing a rattle again and it turned out to be one of the welds that had come apart on the heat shield of the cat. so i ripped that shield off the cat and got rid of the rattle.
hope this helps.

Sorry for a little bit of a thread jack but is there really a difference in underhood temps with the heat shield removed? I get this rattle too and Im 90% positive its the heat shield.
There are heat shields on your header (stock), cat, and above the exhaust pretty much all the way back.
I have the rattle too, from 2700-2800rpm. I've been ******* with all of my heat shields and haven't got rid of it yet.

I had a rattle at 3k RPM's also... found out what it was when I swapped out my ca back... the heat shield on the cat rotted out at the bolts so the cover would rattle at idle and at about 3k RPMS.
i had a couple rattles on my car, 1 was a lose bolt on my header where it connects 4 - 2. the other was my heat shield. and if its not that, you can check your rubber boots that hang your exhuast.

A new cat-back is a good upgrade over stock, and chances are you'll eliminate the rattle by installing a new cat back and a new cat/test pipe.

I had this problem and it ended up being a metal plate under the dash that a screw was missing on it. i put one in and that was one problem, now i get a very very mild viberation from the shifter.. grr
