Well, after a long time of waiting and saving money i have gotten some progress done on the R. After having a really burned valve in CYL#2, i have purchased a new head, with Skunk2 valvetrain, 5 angle, bleh bleh.
I also have a S200 and P28 waiting to go to locash in PHX az and get it tuned by the pros. And picked up a set of TE-37's, OEM front bumper/lip/grill
now she just needs paint on the front and ill be fairly pleased with the results. (hopefully)
heres some pics of the fun that was the head swap:
Tools and head in the car:

getting started:

mess in the garage (i never thought it would all end up in the right spot)

if you cant get the crank pulley off, get a bigger "hammer"

new head:

i havent hosted any of the more current pics of the car, ill get them up tomorrow. the car is running amazing, for the first time in 4 years i feel like i did something right. and for the first time its actually running on all 4 cylinders
I have had to take everything on this car apart and put it back to its original/better state. (original owner hacked up everything on the car) It has been the most rewarding thing to see it coming together, itll never be done.
but thanks to everyone for helpin me out, wish i could buy a brew for ya. and big thanks to TRE_ and smokin sax on here, i appreciate it

Who/how did you do a 5 angle valve job? Every Honda engine builder I have spoken with has advised that there is not enough seating surface to do this.
not calling ya out here, just curious who did the work and was it really a 5 angle job?

i actually bought the head complete, which was a risk of course. but i am 90% sure he said they did some sort of X angle on the valve seat. and it did appear to have a different look to the valve seat.
it was a great deal at the time, i was looking into having the work done on the old head, but this way was my best optioin.
not trying to make excuses though. (3 year old son > than R)

Understand. Most likely it was a 3 angle. Not that it's a bad thing at all. Good to hear that they did a valve job before sale.
Totally understand the kids > R's.

you are probably right, it did look nicely done, and at the time i looked into the shop. they seemed pretty legit.
do the R's then have a 3-angle from the factory? in addition to the cleaned up valve ports? i ask because i noticed on my new one, that only the casting marks had been removed. the ports hadnt been "hogged" out at all. couldnt tell if this was the original or part of the shops doing
