Default hytech replica headers

Does anyone have these on a GS-R? He seems to have a good rep, but I want to make sure they will fit perfect before buying one. I have a feeling that the 2.5" collector will not bolt right up to my stock cat right? Is that titanium-nitrate coating really necessary on a mild N/A engine?

they should bolt up to the block, you might have to play with your a/c but it should fit. you would need a cat that has a 2.5 outlet. before you buy it, you should also think about investing in a 2.5 cat and catback (t1r, hytech, smsp, etc) to really take advantage of the bigger runners.

Hey, I got these headers on my GS-R, freshly rebuilt n/a. Stage 2 cams, port/polish, ITR pistons, S2 intake manifold, 2-1/2" exhaust straight back from header. It doesn't fit with the cat obviously as the header is much longer. There is an o2 bung in the piping as well. I got the titanium-nitrate coating and am really happy with the way it looks, especially after it getting hot a few times. Apparently it's supposed to keep the surface of the tubes cooler, hence making them last longer. As for fit and finish, the header bolted right up to the head, I clean it up a bit on a belt sander to make sure it was flat, at the top ports. The welds are really clean and I have no exhaust leaks. The only thing I have had to do to it is tighten one of the nuts on the bottom where the tubes go together. For some reason one of the lock nuts came loose and I caught it before it fell off the car. I am running an all alluminum radiator with the thin fans and have no clearance issues. A/C and powersteering are also on the car with no problems. Hope that helps.

nice one gsrob. I was actually curious about this too now I know.

So basically just get the extension pipe that they offer with the header because this header eliminates the cat?

Eliminating the cat is illegal correct? And it's possible to throw one on when getting the car inspected, but not if the header is too long. I'm nervous.

You can put a cat there, but you have to modify your exhaust (cut it) so its shorter in order to fit it. Without a car, you would have to extend your exhaust so a cat such as a carsound or smsp cat would work great.

Just so I'm 100% sure, stock GSR piping is all 2.25" right? Like the header collector, cat, and b pipe?

No, the header collector is 2.0" OD, the cat is actually a bit smaller than that, and the B-pipe is (if I'm not mistaken) also smaller than 2.25". The ITR's B-pipe is upgraded to 2.25" mandrel bent SS piping.

If you opt for the replica header, you can quite easily bolt a custom high-flow cat to it, and then simply have the exhaust B-pipe shortened so that everything will line up. It isn't as involved as it seems, and the performance will be superior to most standard "bolt-on" headers.

So If I get that replica header, a 2.5" in/out cat, and buy an exhaust with 2.5" piping I will be straight right? I plan on doing all three, so It doesn't really have to be interchangeable with my stock parts, I was just curious.

Yes, that should work, although most exhausts you purchase will still need to have the B-pipe shortened in order to accommodate the longer header.

So is the header longer like the 00-01 GSR and all other 94-01 integras? Could I just get an exhaust that's supposed to fit an integra with the longer header?

No, it's longer than any standard Integra header.

Does it bolt up to the body anywhere?

Does the stock header bolt up to the body anywhere?

---Sorry but I haven't been under the car in a while.

No, just the head and the cat.

Yes, it has a support bracket, but it's also made of heavy cast iron.

Hang tight, I will take a pic of my exhaust set up tomorrow so you can see how I am running mine. I also sent ya a pm back. Just so you know, the set up sounds killer that I am running, no over the top, loud or obnoxious sounds. The header has plenty of clearance as well even though my car sits pretty low on with my teins.

Is this header going to give me superior gains compared other brands in the same price range? Keep in mind I have a bone stock 98 GSR, I'm getting an intake, but no internal engine mods. I want to replace everything from my header back, but do I need something this intense?

I got all the way down to the shop and forgot my camera. So here are some pretty bad quality pics with my camera phone. It's kinda hard to make out the exhaust since we sprayed it black.

Is your radiator stock? Looks like the hytech rep is coming pretty close if not rubbing. ps your tranny is so clean it looks brand new

No, I have a Godspeed Aluminum radiator with slim fans. There is nothing rubbing. Actually nothing is really very close to rubbing either...The picture is kind of deceiving. I just had my motor and tranny rebuilt and I brake cleaned all of the build up off it before the reinstall. It's a good thing you didn't see it before.

Should I get an exhaust that's supposed to fit a 94-01 ls/gs/rs since the B pipe is shorter on those? I'm not sure if the extension pipe will connect to that length, or the b pipe length of a 94-99 gsr exhaust which will be longer/closer.

The Hytech copy header is about 8.5" longer than a JDM ITR 4-1 header. The only exhaust it will bolt up to is the Hytech cat/exhaust combo. It doesn't matter what exhaust you have, you will need a very short custom cat or testpipe anyway. If you use a 94-99 GSR exhaust, you'll need a 5" cat/testpipe. If you use a 94-01 LS/ITR or 00-01 GSR exhaust, you'll need a 9" cat/testpipe.
