hmm Thermostat removal... benefit?
Ok so my car overheats sometimes but goes down when I turn the heat on....
damn hot weather... but I was at a car meet tonight... and my buddy told me that I should just remove the thermostat until fall is over...
1. what benefits do I gain? someone said power gain.
2. what do i need to make sure to do to make my motor ok still..
3. is this true that it will not overheat?

Don't do it. Your car will overheat...think about it. If you take out your thermostat then the coolant will flow constantly right? Ok, great, constant coolant means cooler engine, right? Wrong...with the thermostat gone, it can't stop the coolant and let the radiator cool it off. It shoots through the radiator and just keeps getting hotter and hotter as it traps the heat from the engine never cooling off due to not stopping in the radiator...leave the thermostat in.
People always wonder why their cars overheat after removing the thermostat. Well, that's why.

if your car overheats then something else is wrong cuz my gsr never overhated even when it was 105 degrees outside it didnt overheat well i built my motor and got a new thermostat from acura dealer i think all u need is a new thermostat or something else is causing it to overheat but taking it out i think is just plain stupid its in there for a purpose not for whatever...

somewhat what i mean... idk it has some reason but at the same time in my opinion i am thinking is one of those pieces... that doesnt hurt to have gone...

well somethings wrong with his too a normal car shudnt be overheating somethings wrong please someone back me up on this mines never overheated and it had an old thermostat maybe u need a radiator flush
when i bought my miata it had no thermostat
the only difference was it took longer to warm up since the coolant was constantly flowing
as for the above comment about it not letting it stay in the radiator, im not sure if you know, but the coolant just instantly flows through the radiator and back into the motor.
REGARDLESS of if theres a thermostat or not
theres no valve at the bottom of the radiator that keeps it INSIDE it until its cool then cycles it through the motor
If you want to remove it you can, but remember honda put it there for a reason, and realistically if you're overheating you might want to check for other reasons as to why instead of just taking out your thermostat
power gains? never heard of that one, i don't see how you could gain any kind of power from having it constantly flowing in compared to not.
considering the fact that inside the thermostat is wax that melts under a certain temperature, which causes the thermostat to expand and allow coolant to flow to the radiator
it wont cool any more or any less than it would in there or not
so i'd say just look for real reasons as to why your cooling system may be over heating, hell your thermostat could be stuck closed and not allowing the coolant to flow to the rad, you could have a small break in the system, or air in the system. don't just remove components

o by the way my gsr is a 94 with 170k on chassis and my motor is off a 2000 gsr with 106,000 miles yes urs has more miles and is older but doesnt change the fact that something else is wrong and removing componets isnt the answer.
