Rod Bolt Stretch * Serached*
I recently just bought a PROFORM stretch gauges from summit and i have no clue how to read the gauge. it said its a .001" dial indicator with a "0" at the top and it goes clockwise in 10 increments. there is also a little dial the that reads .1, .2, .3.
How am i suppose to use the gauge. sorry I am new to engine building.

what you need to do is Zearo the guage, or atleast with an ARP stretch guage you need to. you should be able to do it by twisting the faceplate i belive when its at 0 stretch
Double check the instruction sheet for the ProForm, and see if you have to put any preload into it like you have to with the ARP one. You will need to have one of the rod bolts (new one) to help set the correct preload. Make sure to use the same rod bolt that you are using on the build. If you are going to be doing different mototrs, and/or different rod bolts, you will have to redo the intial step everytime. Zero out the gauge. Once you have done that take the rod bolt and insert it into the stretch gauge. Document the free length on a piece of paper. Once you have done that, as you are installing the rod bearing caps into the motor, and are ready to begin the process of tightening them, then you zero out that gauge again and get the proper stretch for the application. You should have gotten a sheet with the rods that will brake down those specs for you.
