The crank bolt is a bitch - impact wrench is your best bet. Get an impact socket with a breaker bar and start putting pieces of piping on that thing...you need a **** load of torque to break that stupid thing loose sometimes.

Either the gun isn't powerful enough, or it's not getting enough air. Our Craftsman 3/4" impact gun has never had a problem removing a crank pulley bolt.

Probably somewhere around 100 psi, coming from a 30 gallon compressor and I believe our gun is in the neighbourhood of 750 ft lbs of torque.

as stated before what size compressor are you using? which IR gun is it? if it's the 2135ti you should have no problems getting it off. You can also try putting some heat to it.

When I changed my timing belt on my d16, it wasn't that bad. Probably because I had a lot of room to work with since I didn't have power steering or ac belts. I tried using an air compressor to take my crank pulley bolt, but that failed me. End up using a crank puller holder and used a breaker bar to loosen it.

get a bigger compressor, or go to a shop and hve them break it loose then tighten it back with a socket wrench and not the compressor drive it home then remove the bolt again

Heat helps when taking off the crank pully bolt. I have always just heated up real good with an Acetylene Torch and then go at it with an Impact gun. Just be careful what is surrounding where your heating. Like the plastic inner fender. A buddy of mine almost had to call the fire dept. once.

So heat at your own risk.

Good luck.

Some people don't like this method, but when the three air guns, 3 compressors, torch and pb blaster didn't work, I took off the starter and shoved a screwdriver through the flywheel, then used a breaker bar and a 6ft pipe. Do that or take it to a shop and have them break it loose for you like others said.

lol i just removed mine, heres what i did, i had my father help me, what we did is took fly wheel off put the fly wheel bolts back into the crank shaft then took a socket wrench and put a socket extender (3/8) in between the flywheel bolts and put a screwdriver into a hole so that it would hold it, then i held motor while he stomped on the bolt took bout 3 trys but we finally got it.

Sometime you have to tighten it so you can break it loose then loosen it. Use the flywheel method like what rivaladore said.

I used wd40 or whatever you want, let it SOAK overnight.Get your self some impact gun sockets long *** piece of pipe, jam a screwdriver in the flywheel and play with it. don't just start cranking on it,play with it.tighten it,then loosen it and pretty soon she'll break free!!
