Default O.E. Temp gauge...F.U.B.A.R.

The car:
1988 Honda civic DX sohc automatic. 180,000+ miles
The problem:
My O.E. temp gauge is not working at all..I changed both temp sensors under the dizzy. One for ecu & one that sends temp to the gauge cluster. I found that the Yellow/green wire was pinched in 2 spots and I could see the wire through the breaks...I tried to hook it up like that...just wrapped it with electrical tape.
The temp shot all the way past redline as soon as I turned the key....I tried to disconnect it and BROKE THE WIRE!....
How & where do I run a brand new wire from the o.e. temp sensor???
Where would I find the female connector to fit the "bullet" type sensor?...autozone does not carry it.
Any info will help!
Thanks.

I did...the ones at the junkyard are in no better shape. dry rotted and verry brittle.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

just use a female bullet conector you know the blue ones you can get at any electrical store or auto parts store

you may need to open it up a little but i had to do this and it works just fine

How do I replace the Temp gauge wire only?
The gauge is working.
The sensor is brand new.
The wire is the problem.
The wire coming from the temp sending unit on the engine block should be the same going into the wire harness in back of the gauge cluster right?
If so do I run a new wire from one end to the other? And how do I do this?
Any info will help.
Peace.

Default more info

I found the connector...It's the wire itself. The WIRE needs to be replaced.
But how?
1-Crimp new wire to new connector.
2-Connect wire & connector to sending unit/sensor under dizzy.
3-What do I do when I reach the back of the gauge cluster?...which wire do I disconnect?...Do I yank it out?
Thanks for the reply.
Peace.

You need 2 connectors. You also need the pin in the harness that goes to into the gages. once you disconnect each side, pull it out and measure it. Cut a length of wire the exact same size and the exact same gauge. Put the connectors on each side and start on one side again and work it through the firewall to the other, running in the stock location.

To make it look ghetto, and make it much easier and quicker to do, just run it where ever is easiest that will get you from one end to the other. Try to make it the same length and same gauge still. Screwing with those can raise or lower the resistance of the wire.

Good Luck
