motor mounts vs inserts
I am using the inserts in the front passenger side torque mount and rear mount with the front driver side torque mount taken out due to turbo clearance issues. It performs well but I am looking to step up to a set of full poly mounts for the three major mounts.

It wasn't that hard but it did take a good amount of effort. The front two took me about an hour each and the rear took about two hours. The rear mount is a total pain in the *** to get to if you still have a stock intake manifold.

I used inserts in my DA and hated them, they didn't fit well for my car and they didn't give the support I was looking for. They have been the trick for some people but from my own experience I hated them. I ended up using innovative mounts. There is my 2 cents
Curious, why would you replace the mounts with inserts unless the motor had to come out or a mount was broken? Sounds like a lot of effort for minimal compensation?
The stock mounts will wear with time, and decrease in strength and allow the engine to move around. Poly mounts/inserts will reduce engine movement helping to put the power where in needs to go, and help to decrease wheel hop

The difference is pretty noticeable.

inserts.... are great... prothane and energy are 2 companies... I have all 5 mounts on my dc2. I have the lower torques aand the 2 upper mounts. It handles pretty good. It feels stiff... which is what I want.
IMO performance motor mounts are a waste of money. You can get inserts for a fraction of the cost of performance mounts.

I agree with him. Yes the full mounts are nice, but for the price of the inserts you can't beat that. I had them on my old DA and they make a huge difference stiffening thigns up. I was skeptical about them at first too becuase I thoguth they would be loose in the mount and not do much, but they do use very close clearances and take up all the extra space that makes your motor move around. My old DA had the ES(brand I would recommend) inserts in the front and rear mounts along with an Innovative auto to manual mount for the tranny.

Sorry maybe I wrote that wrong. What I meant was that I had worn out stock mounts and it ripped my tranny apart so I tried the inserts. Those also did not work for me so I finally bought real mounts.

The vibration is awsome! When its about -20F out and I fire up the teg it vibrates like a *****. It rattles everything and anything. But In the summer @ about 70F or so its not to bad. And also I have a DA these babys rattle no matter what. If you have a DC you may not have as many rattles.

Im looking into getting some of these since im gonna be boosting my DB7 next year and im just wondering since ive never installed inserts... do you have to remove the motor mount completely? or is there an easier way to install them?

I installed Energy Bushing polyurethane mounts on my civic. It would be a lot easier to remove the mount completely, then install the inserts.
the only side that took some effort is the driver side ( you have to cut the mount and ring out completely) and pressing the polyurethane in with out a press while the the transmission mount and rear are simply "add on" to the stock bushings.

just put in the es inserts this past weekend. yeah, the rear was a bitch and a half, but we got it done.
vibration is not that bad at all. i had prothane inserts before and to me they were unbearable. besides, my rear mount was fucked to say the least (came out in 2 pieces). feels a whole lot "sturdier" i guess. kinda hard to explain though. compared to before (broken, worn stock mounts) doesn't seem to bog as much with the a/c on. the most vibration i feel is from a complete stop coming out of first. just a slight dash shake. once it gets going you kinda forget about the vibration. very minimal while driving. but yeah, good stuff
can't beat if for 40 bucks

Are you stock motor mounts worn out?
I used the ES polyurethane inserts for 2 years. I got tired of all the rattles in my interior at all RPM (its REAAAAALLY BAD). I took them out a month ago and it feels like I'm driving around in a Caddy or something - super quiet!
So, if you plan to race your car a lot and don't mind the rattles 24/7, then ya, the inserts are fine.
But if you plan on driving it on the street, I wouldn't bother with the inserts.
