95 GS-R Axle Problems
I think my front left axle is bad on my 95 GS-R. I get a clicking noise from the front when I take a left turn and the CV boots seem to be intact. Now, when I hit 60+ mph, I get a really bad shake in the steering wheel. And my tires are new and balanced... so, i think it is the axle...
I was thinking of buying a set off Ebay and changing them myself... are they hard to do? anyone have this problem and do it themselves?
Thanks!

It does sound like you have a bad axle. This has happened numerous times to myself and my customers. The clicking and the shaking are both very good indicators of a bad cv. They are not hard to do. Quick instructions:
1. Remove the tire...19 mm lug nuts
2. Loosen and remove the cv nut...32 mm nut (yes it the big one)
3. Loosen and remove the lower ball joint nut...17mm crown nut
- it will have a cotter pin through it, which you can remove using side cutters.
4. Once you have taken off the lower ball joint nut, you will have to either hit your lower control arm with a hammer in the vicinity of the ball joint (but DO NOT hit the threads) or you will have to use a pickle fork and a hammer or air hammer to seperate the ball joint and the lower control arm.
5. Loosen and remove the lower strut fork bolt...17mm nut and bolt
- you will need a 17 mm socket and wrench at the same time.
6. Once the strut fork is seperated from the lower control arm, you can lower the lower control arm which makes room for the cv to come through. I know it looks like the cv will slide through the lower strut fork, but I promise it will not!!!
7. Pop the cv out of the tranny with a small pry bar carefully. It will "pop" out.
8. Also slide the cv out of the hub (the side where the big nut came from).
9. Slide the cv out and down through the opening you have made by removing the lower ball joint and strut fork from the lower control arm. It may take 2 people.
Do everything in reverse for installation. Just make sure the cv "pops" all the way back in the tranny, or it will come back out... ;]
Notes:
The driver side of the integra has an intermediate shaft which accepts a female ended cv. This cv has to be popped off of the intermediate shaft, not out of the tranny. I have done around 100 of these, so it takes me right around 10 minutes per side with air tools. Expect an hour or more with hand tools and being your first time.
Good luck!!!
