Default Decent performing exhaust system without the 'fart'?

Hi all, I'm sure this question or one's similar to this have been asked, I searched but didn't come up with anything relivant to my particular question.

I just got a 94' Prelude SI. The exhaust system has 2 rust holes in it. One before the Catalytic converter and another about half way down the pipe towards the muffler (It's the stock exhaust system, and it's pretty much rusted all over).

I'm planning on modifying the car in the future, so I find it redundant and foolish to purchase a whole new OEM exhaust system to just replace it again later.

So I'm now in the market for an exhaust setup (possibly a new Catalytic converter) but I definately don't want a fart can. What are some good cat-back exhaust systems that keep relatively quiet while still giving a modest performance boost? Looks aren't too important, but I don't want an ugly POS pertruding from the rear bumper either.

Note that my car is 100% Stock right now. I wasn't planning on modding this soon, but since this will eventually need replacement, I might as well go aftermarket here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

if you want custom you can go with a magnaflow muffler for a deep tone, and either a magnaflow resonstor or cerry bomb muffler for a resonator.

another option is to get a catback system, you can find alot of sound clips to see which one you like. the final decision is up to you.

Okay there is a hole before our cat? That is called your downpipe.(no sarcaism intended) YEah maganflow is the apparently the best none rice sounding muffler around.(that I know of) If replacing your cat, since everything is rusted, you should prob start at the problem. Your down pipe. If your gonna buy a new downpipe your best bet is to buy something like a megan header. It comes with new header and downpipe. Then you replace the cat with something better than OEM, go with a highflow cat converter. Then after that is your exhaust pipe. You should have custom pipes done to fit your set up, something like 2.25'' will work Get your magnaflow resonator as well, and pick out a magnaflow muffler to go with it. Take the muffler and the resonator to a muffler shop and tell them u want 2.25 pipes and have them weld on your muffler and resonator. After that install your new cat(provided its bolt on if its not have it welded on with flanges) Then self install your header and down pipe. And ta-da. Your good to go.

That seems to be the most effective way. The way I am going right now.

RSR
Apex'i WSII

anything with a chambered muffler will sound good without the noise.

With my setup I got a header, cat, and a glasspack as a resonator, and I found a Dynomax muffler for a 300zx that has 2 2 1/4" stainless tips on it, sounds very quiet, even under load, and has a pretty good, low note to it, very stealth.

Nothing beats the RS*R Exmag when it comes to quiet exhaust systems.

Diao and others thank you for the recommendations. I've looked into the RSR Exmag and it looks to be a very nice exhaust system with the quiet efficiency I've been looking for. However, I'm only finding an application for the Prelude VTEC, can anyone confirm if this would also work with the Prelude SI? Or am I SOL on the RSR? The Apexi WS2 also looks nice so if I am not too big of a deal.

Thanks again for the recommendations. You've helped me quite a bit.

The Si and Vtec preludes exhaust system is identical from the muffler to the down pipe. The header is diffrent.
