Question for running in the rain (road course)
Tried in the Road racing forum, didn't get much help, so here we go.
I am preparing for the upcoming track days (road course), very excited, however, according to the weather forecast, it will be thunder showering for the whole weekend!! Now here is the question.
Tires – under wet condition, should I stick with stock RE010 or change it to RA1? Last time in the rain I ran with the RA1, I found it’s a lot less forgiving (especially when it comes to over steer, spun out twice because I counter steer too much) RE010 has 24K km on it where as the RA1 just been to the track once (lots of tread left)
TIA,
CS

RA-1s all the way. Even with minimal tread depth, you will find they have greater grip than any street tire. But you must be very smooth in your driving style - this is what water on the track will teach you. Also, adjust your tire pressures for the rain, perhaps dropping a couple pounds from your typical dry set up.
tracking in the rain = awesome.

Stick with the RA-1s. They are much much better in the rain.
As Warren wisely said - keep your inputs smooth and drive a less aggressive line.
Also play around with tire pressures. You can probably go with lower pressures for improved traction.

I would have to agree with everyones recommendation on the RA1s.
Also, you should be driving the "rain line" when it is wet. The "rain line" is the opposite of the "dry line" which you would normally drive. The "rain line" is less greasey and you will find more grip when the track is wet.
Here is a short article which talks about driving in the rain on the track: http://www.opentracking.com/rain_events.htm .

BTW, has anyone ever tried disconnecting their rear swaybar before when driving in the rain? I have always heard about real racers doing this, but I have never had a chance to try it before.

Great info, thanks guys!!! as for disconnecting the rear sway bar? isn't that going to make your car alot more understeer(especially in the rain?). Why would that be beneifical for controlling the car? Cause even with the sway bar, I still find it's more likely to be understeer than oversteer in the rain.
