Overheating at long stoplights and long freeway drives
So I bought a 93 LS last night after mine got stolen last week and as I was driving back yesterday (70 miles on the freeway) I noticed the temp gauge going from the normal positioning to about 1/2 and it kinda jittered back and forth a little bit, then started to go to about 2/3 if I turned the heater off. For the most part it was from the normal position to 1/2 depending on the incline of the hills I was going up.
I checked the fluid level today and the radiator is full and I checked the maintenance records given to me by the seller and 20k miles ago it had the following parts replaced:
timing belt kit
head gasket set
rebuild cylinder head
thermostat
water pump
crank seal
I'm guessing the guy waited too long to change his timing belt and **** went bad so he had all of that done.
So that rules out thermostat and water pump... I'm thinking fans maybe? I tried pulling the plug on the fan relay so I could jumper it and see if they come on but I just couldn't get the plug out (theres a bunch of **** in the way and I didn't have a good angle on it)

that's fine with me... radiators aren't expensive or hard to replace... I just don't want it to be head gasket or water pump or something equally more serious

If it was a head gasket you would loose coolant as it leaks and gets burned in the pistons also making white smoke out of your exhaust, the reason your car stays cooler while the heat is on because that allows the coolant to flow through the heater core but as for the overheating problem use some radiator flush and flush it good, fill with 50/50 mix coolant, check the radiator for leaks integras tend to leak at the top of the radiator because the top and bottom end tanks are plastic, if there is no leaks after you flush make sure you bleed the system properly leaving the cap off until the fans come on at least twice while the heat on full then try that, if it still overheats then it could be your radiator cap, that was my problem as well, the radiator cap is needed to make pressure in the system in order for the fluids to cool things properly and plus a radiator cap is coulple of bucks at autozone or a junk yard, g/l.

that pretty much broke it down. my friend had the same problem but when he was on the highway it would over heat a lot, but driving in the streets it was fine. we found out that it was the radiator that was clogged

negative dont get a new radiator, if youhave access to a pressure washer just flush it....remove the cap from the top, and remove the bottom hose, flush the radiatior with watr coming out the pressure washer, you should see a bunch of gunk build up , prbably orange from the copper build up from the radiatior fluid....easy cheap fix....check your oil level, could cause same symptoms due to poor oil pressure....aaaaaaaaand thats all folks!!!!

well I checked the oil and its at the perfect level
I noticed that if I'm at a redlight and it starts to heat up a little bit (hovers at the halfway point) I can hold the revs at ~2k and it'll go right back down.
Does that rule out the water pump being bad?

I let it run sitting still until it started to go into the halfway point on the temp gauge and the fans didn't turn on.
That would explain overheating at stoplights, but what about the freeway?
