Default HELP! amp: Firewall?

i'm looking to install an AMP into the 99 lude. in my old car, i found a hole in the firewall so i just ran the power cord through it, but i couldn't find a hole in my prelude's firewall. is there a precut hole running through or would i have to drill one? any other alternatives? people with 5th gen preludes please respond with your knowledge?

Well last time I did it on my last Prelude I did not find a hole so I just made a hole through the rubber. But be careful and dont let the cable get sandwiched between metal. I could have been wrong in making a hole but this is how I have done it on my past 3 cars.

Look for other wires running into the firewall. There should be atleast 1 or 2 there. SO look carefully you should be able to squeeze the power cord through one of them

Ok there are two rubber insolators where the wires run through the fire wall. They are located under your fuse box, so you will have to remove the screws holding it down to move it out of the way.

Next you will need to get a coat hanger and straighten it out. Then duck tape the power wire the end of the coat hanger. Next just push the coat hanger through and go to your glove box and find the coat hanger to finish pulling it all the way through. It will be easier if you can get someone to help you feed the wire through. Good Luck

Easiest way for me was to go from my battery to inside my passenger's fender, through my fender, take my plastic inner fender out, and you'll see a gromet where wires are already running through into the cab, run it right there and it sticks out right on top of your ecu.

oh and no coat hangers, or duct tape, or anything other than your hands and a screw driver for this one.

i dont think this is recommended...or if someone said it about the passenger fender, but in a different car, i ran it from the hood, through a small opening of the car and the quarterpanel, straight into the car..and then ran the wire under the floor mat. bad idea?

Like, through the door jam? Im confused. If so, yes, thats bad.

Ill tell you the BEESSST way to wire up an amp.

Relocate your battery to the back, and run a single <2 feet power wire to the amp.

did this myself. no problem at all.

-and there is nothing wrong with fishing wires with a coat hanger and duct tape. seen many of professional electricians fish wire with the like

You are talking about running it where the door will shut on it... am i correct? i think thats what you are saying, take off the inside of your fender (like 3 plastic screws is all you need to take off, you'll see a gromet with wires already going through it.... run it through there, and it comes out right on top of your ecu.

well needing to fool with stuff usually doesn't imply agreement.

e.g.

you also shouldnt fool with running the power/ground/speaker wires together to the amp or you will end up with ground noise on the output end

rubber plug behind the underhood fuse box, pull that, drill a hole in it apropriate size for wire(s), I ran my "0" gauge power wire through it. Slide your wires through there, and now the once plug, acts as a water tight gromet! I just cant bring myself to run wires through the fenders.....considered it.....just too exposed, but if it works for ya, then cheers.

Dude its really easy, you are making it harder than it seems. I did it to my last 4th gen. I know you have the 5th gen but the theory is still the same.

1. There is a hole or two on your firewall with wires running through it. That is how you will get the power wir into the cabin, what ever way you choosse to get it through the hole is on you. I rripped up my carpet and ran the wire under that along the driver side into the trunk.

2. Your remote wire and RCA Cables can be run together to the truck same way under carpet along driver side into trunk.

3. Ground wire is easy, just find somewhere in trunk that can work good.

Its easy try not to think about it to much.

the only problem with that is that i cannot find a hole to run it through. as much as i looked. and i looked almost everywhere. even from in the inside of the car, i can't see a hole. it seemed to me that it was all closed off. thats my problem. if i could find the hole then this thread would have not been posted in the first place.

Well there has got to be. Here is another IDea, but it probally wont be the brightest idea to do. Run you wire from battery to bottom of chasis. Use zip ties to safely tie the power cord to the fuel line rails. Run it all the way to the trunk using zip ties and find a drian hole that is in your trunk. It will have a rubber plug in its way. Poke plug out, cut hole big enough to get power wire through plug and ta da.

Warning if you do this and hit a bump that severs the power line and it shorts and burns through your fuel line and blows the car up with you in it, dont come crying to me cause Ill just say ''TOld you so''

Make sure you install proper fuse to.

hahahaha. i heard of a professional installation place that ran wires under the vehicle. i'm not 100% sure but thats word of mouth. it doesnt sound too bright. anyway, i guess all i can do is just look harder to find the hole in the firewall, i really cannot find one ANYWHERE. do u know the general area of one? cuz it really did look all sealed off. i canot even find where other wires are at that i could feed thru with them.

What you have to look for is probally a black wire tube. It holds wires in it. They are all over your engine bay. But this ne will probally run into your firewall and conect to a ruber plug as well. Or what you can do is look in your cabin under driverside where the pedals are and see where the wires are coming in at.
