Default code 43 help - stock EG8 sedan

bone stock 92 civic sedan 5 speed with 179K - throwing a code 43. I searched and there are mixed replies - nothing definitive. Some say 02 sensor, some say replace everything and anything. It does come on after driving a bit, so it seems like 02 sensor. I hate spending money on the 02 to not be it.

Meanwhile my speedo bounces like no other - seems like VSS going bad as well. Lots of nagging issues - this blows!

I have an exhaust leak and can hear it, I doubt it is causing this issue!

Anyone have other suggestions or personal experience?

If its an 02 sensor, what brand do I buy and where from? Satan wants an ***-ton!

Thanks!

O2 sensors don't last forever. They have a service life of around 75-90k miles. Maybe yours actually needs to be changed. People say replace anything/everything because a good majority of people don't keep up with regular service maintenance. Have you done a tune-up lately?

Buy NTK, NGK or Denso. Stay away from Bosch, Walker and any "universal" O2 sensor that requires re-wiring on your part.

Exhaust leaks can also cause this problem, if the leak were before the O2 sensor.

With 179k on the clock, did the previous owner disclose what maintenance they had done to it? Like the timing belt, water pump, coolant, belts, hoses, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, tranny fluid, valve lash, cleaning up grounds, etc etc. - what's the status of those items?

t-belt, water pump, head gasket, belts, plugs, wires, distro were all done at 130K, I guess. No idea on coolant, fuel filter, valve lash, grounds etc....

Thanks!
