throttle sticking problems.. help please.
i am having throttle sticking problems. the first couple minutes of driving its fine. then if i leave the throttle at a certain position for like more than 2 minutes like when i'm cruising on the freeway then let off rpm goes does really slowly and stays at 2000ish rpm.. and if i stab the throttle and let go really fast, it goes away the rolling goes back to the regular 1200ish. if i don't stab the throttle and just let it stick at 2000 and come to a stop, it would also drop to normal. sometimes the idle surges too but thats pretty rare. i have tried everything from cleaning the throttle plate, lubricating and cleaning the **** out of the butterfly/spring thing, loosening and tightening the throttle cable to give or take away slack, and lubricating the cable. it is a brand new type r throttle cable. the throttlebody is a bbk 70mm. this problem popped out of no where, it never use to do it.
Try to adjust the stop so you are sure thats whats stoping the butterfly (there should be a tap of the brass part that holds the spring).
If the butterfly is not hitting the stop it can cause it to get wedged on springback.
After adjusting the stop readjust the idle screw because it will prob be ideling high.
That should do the trick.

I am guessing that you cannot make this happen in the driveway either in Drive or in Park, give it a try and you may (but maybe not) get it to act up in Drive. Ultimetly Honda computer controls the IACV based on PRNDL input and even more so with a VSS input, this means when the car is actually moving, I have proved this fact with sticky IACV's, I think you may have a sticky IACV, you will need a scanner to monitor scan data or a scope to monitor the amp ramp of the valve itself, this last method will require some training I think on the part of the technician. I believe that it is staying open when it is commanded to move towards the closed position during decelleration. Initially on decel the IAC is commanded open so the engine does not die from lack of air, then the IAC calms down and reduces the air intake down to an idle, I think this is not happening on your engine.
Is there any way in hell you can rig up a video camera and light under the hood facing the throttlebody inlet with the inlet tubing removed just to see if the throttle plate is actually sticking. I have been wanting to make up a video set up for years but still have never bought a video corder.
