Default D16yz, Stock internals, turbo ..

Friend just picked up a 93 hatch with a d16yz (50k) He bought a turbo kit off ebay.

My first question is, a reasonable psi to run safley as a DD on a stock block)

second is, the kit came with a black spring for the waste gate, where does the vaccumn line at the top of the waste gate run to?

Is the black spring a rating for a certain psi?

2 options:

He either bought a d16z6 (out of the 92-95 Si and EX)
Or a d16y8 (96-00 EX)

Both are practically identical.

Honestly, if you boost, the majority of what you can "run safely" depends on your A/F and overall tune. I've run 10psi for about 3 years now, 14-15 on high boost. I love it. But i also have a conservative tune, and RARELY beat on it.

"Safe" would be 7-psi with good performance results, but 10-12psi daily isnt unheard of.

Good luck with that. TUNE TUNE TUNE!

run it at 10psi and wait for the turbo or manifold to crap out on you

i'm going to be running a stock d16z6 soon enough and some research says that 8 psi can be good for daily driving on stock internals.
just not sure what is safe for weekend racing.. i wouldn't push over 10psi

psi depends on the size of the turbo... 10 psi on a t25 will be much different than 10 psi on a gt35r... so we can't give you a "reliable pressure" without turbo size

edit: i run 8 psi daily on a street tune... about to go turn it up to 10-12 next month... i'm running a 14b

Also, re-do the headgasket/headstuds now before the boost.

And if it MIGHT need it........rebuild the turbo anyways. Turbo Hondas + Bad oil seals = smokescreen

Its an Ebay turbo kit, so im pretty sure its a t3/t4..

and if we did the head studs with a better head gasket it would be more reliable?

Also what about the waste gate?

What would happen if the car was driven without a boost controller? Would the boost just max out with out it?

no the boost controller just conrolls how much vacuum gets to the wastegate... if you keep the controller off it will just run at whatever spring the wastegate is at... (correct me if i'm wrong)

Just to be clear, what kind of engine did you pick up? What is the block stamped with? I have never heard of an "D16yz." Yes d16z6 and d16y8 engine's are identical but they run different maps.
