Default Problem with the auto-tensioner adjuster nut

I need to loosen this thing, but it's not moving with my 14mm wrench on there. The material seems really soft. It's stripping very easily, so I just stopped before I do something really bad. No room to get a ratchet on it. I need some help with this thing to relieve tension in the belts.

You need a six point 14mm box end wrench, dont use the open end and dont use a cheap wrench or a twelve point box end.

They changed the design of that nut at some point. Does yours look like the one in the picture or does it have a rounded end? If it rounds off I'd take a pipe wrench or channel locks to it for removal and replace it with the newer one. Try not to bend the bolt that it attaches to or the belts may want to come off their sprockets. The stealership might even give you the new version if you take in the mangled one because that is (was) a known issue.

The rounded variety of that nut is pictured here: (#31)

Looks like the nut installed in my motor is the old design, the one pictured in the helms. I'm not so sure about the dealer replacing it for free. Is there a tsb for them to verify it as an issue?

Nope, you usually cannot. You have to use a 14mm wrench.

What I found you can actually do is put the box end on the nut and use a 1/2" breaker bar on the open end of the wrench. It could fubar the open end, but it'll get the nut off.

Maybe a crows foot with a breaker bar would get it...

I'm trying to remember what I used last time....

If you use a crow's foot, make sure it's the flare kind. A "regular" crow's foot will surely round the bolt head off.
