How To Remove This Ram Horn Bolt?
I can get a wrench on every manifold bolt except for two --- the one in the picture with the arrow and the one on the opposite side. What do I use to I remove it?
I can't fit a socket on the bolt because the manifold tube curves up and won't allow the socket to fit. There's not enough clearance.
If I try the open end of a box wrench, the engine head gets in the way and the wrench won't sit flush. I tried turning the bolt, but it is starting to strip. The "box" end of the box wrench won't fit because there isn't enouch clearance between the bolt and the exhaust tube.
If I could fit a six sided socket on it, I'd be able to take it off. I'm stumped.

this is exactly why I use studs..
try using an open ended wrench and bend the wrent in a vice a little so it clears the head, then try with that,
if you strip it, grab some vice grips and a propane torch and have at er

Maybe try one of those "crow foot" sockets. It goes on the end of a ratcheting wrench but its a open end of a combination wrench so its not as big as an actual socket. Might be able to get that on there and since is a very shallow attachment it would clear the head without pushing the wrench into the manifold.
Or maybe an offset combination wrench. I usually use an offset wrench or one of my craftsman flex head ones for stuff in that situation

Have you tried pulling up a bit on the manifold to see if it moves at all.the only thing I can think of is the same thing the previous two posters mentioned.Harbor freight is your friend in this situation very cheap wrenches you can bend to fit around the head.

you remove all the bolts except for the two you cant get to. then turn each bolt equally and pull the manifold out towards the front of the car, you gotta " nibble" away at it until you can get all the bolts out and by that time the manifold itself will be removed from the head also.

My suggestion to the open end flexing and not getting that off. You should buy better tools, i can crack those loose with my wrenches no problem. snap on, mac, etc.... buy the essentials from them.
Also studs are your friend, bolts work for n/a headers but with turbo's come heat. this can lock up those bolts in the head where studs usually avoid this issue.
another thing to note is having to make custom/modified tools is common with heavily modified cars like a turbo honda. most all shops will have a collection of cut, welded, ground on tools to get these jobs done. Go buy some cheap wrench from a retail store and make er fit.

Re: How To Remove This Ram Horn Bolt?
b16racereg6: I was spraying all the bolts with PB Blaster last week.
Whoohoo! A Cheap-a$$ 6" crescent wrench did the trick! It was thin enough to clear the head and the adjustability made it easy to clamp down snugly on the bolt. I used a cheater bar and it broke loose easily.
The other bolt actually had enough clearance from the exhaust tube, so I was able to fit a box wrench around that bolt and tapped the wrench with a hammer.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

I actually have one of those in 12mm, but the box end would not clear between the bolt and the exhaust manifold tubing. The steel around the gear was too thick.

Or next time, get one of those sets from sears "Craftsman" black tools that are heavy duty and thick, the one w/ 6 different head design. Here's the link, check it out.

Re: How To Remove This Ram Horn Bolt?
id recommend using a 6 point wrench to decrease the possibility of stripping the bolts head... if u dont have enough torque on it to break it loose... maybe try using a jack handle to increase the length of the wrench...
