hey guys, here is the thing, recently painted my lip and applied about 3 coats of the clear coat. it didnt come out shinny and i still can feel the paint's ruffness. please help.

DO U know where i can get that ?? would like pepboys/autozone have it ?? or should i go to an auto shop?

 

DBU is PPG, you have to get it from a jobber most likely. PPG is good and I also like DuPont HC7600.

Kind of, they sell supplies to shops. They also deal tools and car parts. In my area there are a few, Mattos deals DuPont, Valley Paint deals PPG, etc...

 

I personally would go with the BASF Limco it's very good clear and it's not exspensive at all.It retails for around $120 a gallon with the hardner.Here's some pictures

I mean for Limco clear it lays out pretty nice for a $120 clear. People even do overalls with that clear!!!!But honestly I wouldn't recommend it at all.If you where going to do an overall, I'd go with Diamont and lays out even better. But my favorite is BASF RM Oh keep in mind it's not even watersanded or buffed yet.

To be honest with you I don't think so But you can always ask.

 

ppg has a cheaper brand called shop line..great shine for price..most companys only sell clears by the gallon

i think i know your problem. don't go out and buy clear coat from a jobber.

i'm guessing you used clear out of a spray can. if that is the case, the clear won't shine until you cut and buff it.

since you said its kinda rough... try to smooth it out with 1000 grit. be careful not to burn thru it. just don't apply much pressure.

after that is done, your lip should look hazed. now go get a polisher and hit it with rubbing compound followed by polishing compound. it should shine good after that.

all of those materials can be found at walmart. don't go all out on a lip.

did you lay the clear on wet enough? is the gun adjusted properly? roughness is usually from overspray when the gun isnt shooting properly.. that or you got a bunch of trash in it.. Have you tried wetsanding and buffing yet?
i used Limco on my last paint job and i loved it! Had a really good shine and not that expensive!

Thanks guys for all the help. I will try the rubbing compound first. If it works, I will post pictures. But I have to find time. Maybe in a week or so.

 

I used PPG's Omni Clear Coat and I had one of the hardest time's getting it to lay flat. It was really cheap clear coat...my paint shop had it for $13 a quart, then $13 for the hardner or so.....

After wet sand and buff....it shines real nice but when I go to paint things next, I think i'm going to get my hands on some better clear.

 

i see shop line everyday....i work in a warehouse full of ppg paint

 

omni's clear is hard to lay on(for noobs like me), but it does shine good for it's price.

 

One of my favorites is the BASF DC5300, it rocks for completes, its not the best for ultra fast clear cycle though. Found at your local auto paint supplier.

Can you still get 7600 since they came out with the new 7776? All my jobbers say they have no more stock. Dupont 7600

 

I tend to use PPG DBU's, DUPONT 9700, and Sikkens.

I have to try the BASF line. Heard nothing but good things
about it.

i recently finished a backyard job on my car, and i used matrix ms52 , lays out pretty good, not too bad of pricing had a good shine even b4 wet sand and buff
