Default How do I stop the alarm from going off when I connect the battery?

I was recently doing a compression test and had to hook up a battery charger. When I went to hook the battery back up the alarm goes off when I slip one or the other connection over its terminal. I was doing this at night and couldn't play around with it and figure it out without pissing off the neighbors. The first thing I did was try to stop the alarm with the remote but it didn't work. Also I don't know why it does it, especially since I disarmed it before working on the car. Does anyone know what I should do about this?

:smacks self in the head:

Wish I had thought of that... Instead, I stand at the ready with remote in one hand, pressing unlock feverishly until the siren stops blaring...

Actually, I could use the remote. I guess the battery in the remote is dying so it didn't respond right away. Like I said, it was late and I didn't have time to let the alarm go while I tested the remote so I had to wait until morning. I got up, stuffed a couple of shop towels in the siren and reconnected the battery. The alarm went off and after a couple of firm clicks it reset.
