critique my body/paint plan...
Doing a color change from red to white.
All in garage
Paint will probably be done either in the garage all prepped or booth if I can make it.
This is a second car so not pressed for time.
My plan of attack is to sand down to the metal on dings I can't tap out... Apply 2 wet coats epoxy primer over metal (didn't choose a paint system yet, leaning towards omni, nason since i'm a noob).
scuff it up lightly with some 80 apply filler (evercoat)... block with 180....
then apply 2 layers of 2k primer
block again with 180
apply 2 layers of 2k if i break through
(apply evercoat eurosoft putty if there are pinholes)
final block sand will be wet with 400-600 (all block sanding will be with guide coat)
base
clear
I have been researching and reading so many debates, arguments, and being side tracked by many interesting aspects of painting. I've weeded out by what I've assumed whom were knowledgeable people and came up with this. Just need all little more confidence and I'm going to start this project.
I understand the how-to sort of... It's going be a while for technique... but I have the will to learn!

decided to just go ppg... gonna just start off using the omni prep stuff heard nothing but good things.. might go with good stuff if i am comforable with my ability with the gun
I have a finshiline 3 gun should be coming in tomorrow.
wondering if this is good enough to use for clear?
gonna buy a hb gun for primer...
33gal 2hp craftsman compressor since i maybe moving in a year and don't want to lug a huge one around.

PPG is good stuff. That's what I shoot unless I'm at work and then it's DuPont. But for personal and side jobs it's all PPG.
The 2021 clear is a good beginner clear. The Omni pre-paint things are great.

your plan of attack all sounds good to me... Only thing i would add is a coat of sealer before you base and clear... WORKS WONDERS!! especially on a big color transition like that
good luck bro!
also make sure that compressor can hold enough cfm for those guns to spray properly

when would I apply sealer before base (without sanding correct)? I thought if I used a white tinted primer it would keep the paints from bleeding?

I also shoot sealer before shooting any base. The sealer is applied before the base. The sealer also dosen't need to be sanded, only if it isn't layed down right you will have to sand and redo.

correct.... some colors have tinted sealers to go with that color.. you shoot it right before base.. give it bout 10 min flash time and then spray base.. its a wet wet thing so dont wait too long to spray the base..
it will help with coverage and bleeding

just out of curiosity, why are u stripping the whole car? if it doesnt need it i wouldnt recommend it. i would say just sand the paint that is ont their. and as stated above, seal it. sealer isnt just for color purposes, it also provides adhesion

i understand thats what ur doing, but is their a purpose? chances are that ur whole car doesnt need to be stripped. IMO, its a waste of materials and lots of time
