Oil gushing out - also has red in it - help!
Havn't started the car in about a week, was fine last week, started today just before i was going to do oil change...pulled it into my garage..and there was a decent size puddle of oil there...stupid me..did the oil change anyways...while draining it..noticed my engine oil has a RED tint
started it back up
..and oil started coming out pretty fast from i'm guessing one of the oil pump seals or crank seals...havnt found exactly where it's coming from yet..no time..
anyways...that really sucks and all...gonna be a big job...but my question is...HOW would tranny fluid get into my engine oil...
anyone know how it usually would enter the block? is there a main seal between the tranny and block that tends to blow? HELP!

are you SURE that you car is leaking engine oil
engine oil is BROWN
trans fluid is RED
there is no possible way for those two to get mixed up on that model of car.
most likely your trans cooler line is busted, fix it asap or your trans will die a horrible death

either that or he could be mistaken about the red tint and it actually is oil.
rybred,
since you mentioned the side of the engine with the oil pump and crank seal, maybe it is the front balance shaft seal.
What year/model car do you have and is it the stock motor or a swap?
If it is an F series (or maybe even H series as well, dont recall exactly) there was a service bulletin about this years ago. There should be a retainer installed on the engine to hold the front balance shaft seal in place so it doesn't work it's way out and spew oil everywhere. It can drain your oil very quickly and cause damage if not caught right away.
I've seen this retainer come in two different styles.
here is a picture of one style...

and here is a picture of how it looks installed (click for a larger view)...

The yellow arrow is pointing to the front balance shaft seal retainer
here is a diagram that shows the style of the other retainer, it's part #14...

replaced the radiator a while back.;.so maybe i did bust one of the trans cooler lines somehow
anyways..its a f22b i'm pretty sure..94 accord lx....stock motor
on my h23a...i'm pretty sure i've seen that balance shaft seal retainer if i remember right..but havnt looked to find that big oil leak in the accord yet
i guess you can only buy that retainer from Honda?
and YeuEmMaiMai it's not just leaking, it's leaking baaaad...like 1 cup a minute...spewing out by that side...maybe i'll just get a new oil pump with the seals installed..if the leak is there of course...

Throwing parts at a car is always a bad idea. You need to pinpoint where it's coming from before you waste any money.

The retainer was available from the premier Honda man in the US, Grant Swaim, SureSeal I think was the name of his sales business, he had his own shop then had a heart attack and now teaches at a local tech institution in NC (?). His new teachers site.

thats because there is a pump pushing it out

Stop playing and get it fixed, its possible that no oil is making its way to the top of the engine now and you dont want to ruin it by trying to figure out where the leak is prior to doing some disassembly first, let us know what you find please.
U were right touringaccord...it's the balancer shaft seal...now my problem is getting that dam pulley off..i've broken two screwdrivers..and a pin punch trying to hold that dam balance shaft
u think it would damage anything using a impact ratchet to get it off?
if i can fit it in there of course
and smeared the oil..dont see red..so maybe i was just trippin when i drained it...i'm just used to seeing really black oil coming out...not semi dirty oil coming out...
thx for the replies anyways
