Default Installed Plug in Charger for the SI

Since I am now keeping my SI is the garage most the time, I am finding that the alarm (or Nav System) is draining my battery. Since the Alarm is always on, I assume that is what is draining the battery, but after about a week of sitting, she turns over a bit slow.

Has any one heard of, or installed a trickle charger set-up on their SI? I am thinking of one of those chargers that install under the hood and plugs into the wall when your car sit's for long periods of time.

Please let me know.

Thanks

It is not the definitely not the Navi that is draining your battery.
It PROBABLY is something that was installed after the fact, I'd look into the aftermarket gauges

what mike said.
i really doubt it's your navi that is draining your battery...or else Honda would of done something about it while in the process of making this vehicle.

I do not have a factory Nav. I had the CD / Sat Radio pulled out and had a Eclipse CD/DVD/Nav installed with a bunch of amplifiers and speakers. I only recall losing all my save points in the nav system when I disconnected the battery. That is why I thought that perhaps the nav system used some current when the system was off.

You are actually right. My Type-R used to sit for long periods, NO MODS at all, and the battery would die. It was brand new. A trickle works great, also called a battery minder.

It shouldn't die after a week... Mine sits for 1-2 weeks sometimes and has no issues starting. I also have aftermarket audio equipment, nav, alarm etc.

Now, when I let it sit for a couple months this winter, I had some problems getting it to start, but that was also probably because I didn't start it much.

I'd look at any aftermarket electronics you installed if your battery is dying after only a week of sitting.

I just unplug the battery in my project cars if it's going to sit there for an extended period of time but then I don't have any special settings or saved features in my car.

i wouldn't install one in the car, just pop the hood and hook it up to the battery then leave it. Won't hurt your hood to sit open for a bit.

my car turns over very slow in the morning when im leaving for work or college. It actually takes a bit for it to start up. but my dad had his battery die on his 88 vette couldn't ever find the problem. it was s/c also and he hooked up a battery charger thing when it sat a lot it didn't really help.

I am going to assume they were, they were installed by Proffessional Installers, but I will have that checked.

Well, I found one.

http://www.batterymart.com/p-b....html

But I think I changed my mind about mounting it in the engine bay. Heat and vibration is going to kill the thing quickly, not to mention the size of the thing. Not much room in the engine bay anymore.

I am taking the car back to my mechanics and have them check the gauge and amp installs. Want to make sure everything is hooked up correctly, check the suggested possible causals offered in this thread.

Thanks all, for your responses and help.
