Default 92 Prelude Si with an interesting story

Hey everyone, im new to the place and i tought you would all be able to help me out.

A long story shortened somewhat, i bought a 92 prelude si with 175K miles on it for 500 bucks from a guy that was moving out of state.

However the engine was bad or something(his words) and to make up for it he gave me an additional h23 engine.

so now i have taken the car (and 2 engines) to my mechanic and opted to buy a third h23 from a friend of my mechanic "who sold it cheap cuz it was kinda hot".hmm.

anywho, now the engine is awaiting some new seals and a new clutch b4 it gets dropped back in the car.

so finally i have been thinking about what i can do and decided that maybe i could make another h23 out of the other 2 but the original engine "has something stuck in the valves and the bottom end seems to be damaged" (my mechanic's words)

and the other engine had very low compression (one cylinder had 10, another 90, another 45 and another 30) and the heads "appeared to be bad" (mechanic's words again)

so i was thinking that maybe i could take the 2 engines and then make a good h23 or possibly an h22/23 hybrid with the 22vtec heads and 23 bottom (which will need to be beefed up).

what do you guys think?

thanks in advance

You could fix the engines on the side and sell the possibly..

It's the hot engine that is calling my attention...
Why would you buy an engine that's "kinda hot." Doesn't make sense...

If your mechanic looks at any I4 and says the heads appear bad I would guess he doesnt know what he is talking about considering there is only one head, these aint V8s here

Take it somewhere else or make an ad on here for a local gearhead looking to make some extra $$$$ take a look at it all before you get raped by this guy. Him saying that the motor is hot is a bit fishy as well. Good luck with this

hey everyone, thanks for your help and first ill clear some stuff.

my mechanic has a friend who has a salvage/towing yard and the reason why he mentioned the engine might be hot was because he gets a lot of stolen cars (he picks them up for the police) or something.

so basically i talked to teh actual guy and he took the engine out of a 94 integra (gets stranger) that got taken away from a guy with no license so the engine is good.

also, i talked to my mechanic again and the original engine in the car had bent valves, and something crooked at teh bottom, and the second engine had bad compression or something along those lines.

thanks for your help guys

The h23 he got is out of a gsr? Umm, thats kinda hard to do unless for some reason someone went to the hassle of doing an h series conversion on an integra and only putting an h23 in it.

yeah actually now that you mention it, its unusual, but i saw him pull the engine from a 96- 97? integra so whoever had the car b4 experimented with it.

on a related note the car was impounded for being an "spectator" in a street race according to what the dude told me

(california is gay like that, and more so here in sactown)

Ide get a second oppinion because it seems your mechanic is confused. Since your taking htis car to a mechanic i guess that means you dont know much about cars?? most mechanics arnt going to be able to do an h22/h23 hybrid for and even if they could its going to cost more than a new motor PLUS it not going to do you much good. I did the conversion out of curiosity and it only picked up like an extra 10 hp. I say sell your motors and get anouther its gana be the cheapest route.

I am really confused! in fact i am so lost i dont even know if my car is a honda. Dont mean to be a smart **** but i think you need to do a bit of research and find a knowledgable mechanic you can trust. You should be able to build another engine with the 2 spares but depends on what your working with.

well i've spent quite a while researching the hybrid and ultimately like believer said, most come to the conclusion that its not worth it and if not done correctly it can be detrimental to the engine's life.

so for the time being the new engine is nearing completion and i have 2 spare engines with which i have 2 options:

1. make one good engine out of the two
and then either

sell it and get some dough

or turbo it and have some fun.

also, a lot of ppl have told me to just get an h22 and swap it as it will give me more power etc. however i am a true beleiver of the h23 but it seems most ppl take the easy way and just swap a 22 in. i want to stick with the 23 and maybe turbo, so anyone here has tried to turbo?

bent valves = good block?
low compression = maybe scored cyl walls..?

see which is good, which is damaged..

use the good + repair the bad and ur set.

The H23 VTEC hybrid is for the better torque. Power isn't really the object of it. It brings up and flattens the torque curve.
