Tranny question (opinion?)
I was doing a little "spring cleaning" in the ITR's engine bay, and I see the tranny code is SC4. Well, a bit disturbed, (as you can imagine). I walk over to my EM1 to see what it's code is. SC4. Hmmmm... interesting.
So I hop on the old HT webz, and do some searching. Either I got waaaaaay duped when I bought my R, or I have the CTR tranny. I don't really feel like taking the axles out to check the diff. and I can't get a hold of the guy that sold it to me.
So, is there really any way to check? I could put the front tires into dirt or something, and see if they leave equal marks. Isn't there a way to jack the front tires off the ground and spin one, and if the other spins in the same direction, then it's got an LSD?
Anyway, LSD or no, if it is the CTR tranny, is it worth keeping over an ITR tranny? I haven't driven very many other R's, and I don't really have a way to test one out. So that is what I'm asking you guys. Which tranny would you recommend? Also, would the CTR tranny be stamped with the LSD paint? (PS - the vin is removed from the casing)

Whoa, that last sentence to me is a red flag. To my knowledge the JDM transmissions didn't come with VIN tags, so if one was clearly removed then I'm guessing it's the same trans that's in your EM1.
I could be wrong though and I don't feel like shuffling through archived stuff ATM.
P.S. Quit being lazy.

Compare gear ratios to decide whether you want to keep or change.
To confirm LSD...LSD and another 3 letter/number should be painted near the left of vin badge area.

agreed. And Jun... I am lazy. I realize that. I'm sorry duder. (Dang it though, sometimes it's just so much easier to make a new thread... LOL. That's why I love you guys, you keep me honest)
anyway, I suppose maybe the VIN wasn't removed, maybe it's just not there like you said. I need to do some more cleaning, cause I can't find the LSD painted on there. I know exactly where it is on a USDM R tranny, and could find it with my eyes closed. But it's tougher on this one. I don't have light anymore either, so I'll have to wait until 2morow to look again.
As for LSD being in it, I did the "gravel" test. I spun tires in gravel, and they both spin evenly. (I don't have enough tread, nor the urge, to do a clutch drop on the pavement) Anyway, I'm thinking that it is in fact the CTR tranny. I don't think the guy was shady at all. He told me everything. Either I wasn't paying attention, or it slipped his mind about the tranny.
Opinion: would you guys stick with the CTR, or go ITR with it? I think the ITR actually has a quicker acceleration, at the expense of top speed (or fuel economy, but who cares about that?) I'm pretty happy with it, as is, but I'd almost like to go with an ITR tranny. Am I a moron?

No, I didn't mean lazy in not searching, well sort of, I mean by not jacking it up and looking inside of the trans.
...and you're right, something like this should be made into a new thread as the more people read stuff the more it gets planted into their heads, well mine anyway. It's the "how many ITRs were made", the "what's the color code for PY" questions" you know?

Last I checked, there is really no way to tell from stamps, vin numbers, ect.
The sure fire way to tell is to
a) Open it up.
b) Put it through the gears and record your speed at the top of each gear. There are a few articles on here that'll tell you the specs of the ITR 4.4 in terms of gear/speed vs.RPM.
A B16 tranny (S80 or equivalent), is pretty short (not sure if it's shorter than an ITR 4.4), but it'll be pretty clear. Just the same as if you were to put a 4.9 in your car. But who knows .... might be a GSR tranny, B16, LS, ect ... If it were me, as long as the LSD is in there, I wouldn't really care which one it was.
